I think some of this generator maintenance will come into good use in the next few days on the east coast.
Now if only I had put my 22kw Generac on two feet of concrete blocks. fresh oil doesn't help when the water is into your engine....actually might sandbag my gen.

Yes, and good luck to you all who are in the path of that vicious Hirricane!

Best of luck daugen. Even w/o direct exposure to coastal surge water, sandbags sound prudent.

Exercised the Champion 7k dual fuel yesterday.
Hooked up propane line & regulator to a 20lb. bottle, started with pull cord (to conserve battery charge as it does not stay on trickle charge now) and ran it for 20 minutes with a 1500 watt heater on each leg.

Since installing the 22k whole house unit, the 7k is living in the metal equipment shed with tractors and implements. Propane is a nice option for a gen. with only occasional use.

Nicely done Nick; a lot of folks would forget about the portable stuff once the whole house gen was hooked up.

Propane stores well, for a really long time. If you don't have AC in the shed, perhaps a solar panel would keep that battery alive ?

Had two runs on propane in two days. Around 4 hours on first day and 5 on second, running house load minus forced air heat and cooking stove. Used one full 20lb tank and about 1/4 of second.

I have a honda 2000I and it has finally started burning oil to the point it will shut off about half way through a tank of gas. By no means am I complaining as I have had this generator for over 10 years and when I use it runs 24 hours a day and other than changing the oil I have never had to do a thing to it. My problem is I can't find anyone in the area to rebuild the engine. I am guessing it will need rings and valves re-seated. If I can't find anyone I may try to tackle it myself this winter and was wondering if anyone has rebuilt one and has any pointers.

Heading towards 3lb/hour - any estimate of load ? Just curious.

Can't remember it was this thread, or another TBN one...... I seem to recall 90cummins rebuilding a small Honda for a friend - try PMing him if you don't get any other bites.

I acquired an EU2000i that burned oil also and rebuilt it with new rings.
The first thing I did was buy a Honda shop manual in order to take it apart.
Very compact construction but very easy to repair with the manual.
I used a brake hone for the cylinder & cleaned the tiny/tiny valves and she now runs perfect.
I ran a couple tanks of fuel thru it with a 1kw load to verify operation and get a feel for fuel consumption.
It now sits with non-ethanol gas.
