The Hospital Generators are sized to cover all emergency and life safety loads...

We did a test and found a typical load averages 27% of capacity as the units were sized with expansion in mind... not to mention actual loads have decreased over 20 years through efficiency... everything from lighting to HVAC

PCB's are chemicals that were used in high voltage transformer oils.
They were dumped & buried in and around Pittsfield Ma.
During remediation of the contaminated soil air samples were taken 24/7 to monitor air quality.
In some neighbor hoods they went 10ft or more to remove soil.
There are also permanent pumps pulling a vacuum to extract oil that has moved to deep to access.

I remember that era of equipment. Poly chlorinated biphenyls were popular for a while, till the consequences were understood. I recall my Dad saying that back when, guys were using PCBs to degrease tools by hand.

PCB are not that dangerous unless they are mistaken as cooking oil which happened in Japan one time . When PCB's are heated to smoking temperatures they break down into poison.
PCB's are often mixed up with Dioxins which are very nasty group of organic chemicals .

Depends where you draw the line on danger....

Yep, some variants are worse than others, but I'd prefer 0 ppm in my water. Realistically, we all have some exposure to deal with.

I thought PCB's were the chemical of choice in the cooling fluid for electric pole transformers, so that means there were millions of them made.
The State of PA limits the intake of fish eaten out of the Delaware River allegedly to one serving per month, due to the catfish eating the bottom dreck and that's where pcb's from upriver finally lodged. In other words, there were pcb's all along the bottom of the River. I wonder if those catfish glow in the dark.
Seems similar to the airbag problems we have now; state of the art turned out to be seriously dangerous.

PCBs were in the big Xformers too, but those don't often get knocked over/broken open by trucks going off the road. They're actually a pretty old compound.

Yeah, lots of toxic stuff accumulates in rivers.... I don't know if they ever decided what that huge blob was on the bottom of the St Clair river, downstream of Sarnia/Dow Chemical.

People that work in power know about PCBs.... it's worth banging a few bits around on the topic in this thread, for the folks that had never heard of them. Endocrine disruption is driven by more than just PCBs. If you've ever known anyone with a major thyroid problem, it's obviously non-trivial.

Nice to have that much power standing by, esp. when you know how to maintain it

ya... Funny thing is i just installed UPS protection for both of the new desktop computers last month. I was on the computer doing company books when power dropped out....the house went dark but my new 20 inch monitor kept the room lit up and the screen didnt blink so i myself didnt notice the power drop out....the wife did because to tv shut off. Within 12 seconds everything was on again and she said.. "Nevermind..the power is back up" . I just kept finishing the books and made my list for tomorrows jobs. Then i wrnt to kitchen to get an ice tea and i could see no lights in windows. I opened back door and the generator is running. Couldnt hear it from inside. The whole area is in the dark but im cool and comfortable with ac running and entire house working.
I manually shut it down at 10:30 to go to bed, but first went thru and made sure all lights were off so they wouldnt come back on when power is restored.
It was nice going to bed in complete darkness except full moon. But then around 10:45 i noticed some lights in the house. Power had been restored and all the stupid led power indicators (clocks, etc) came back to life. Its amazing how many little indicator lights ar in the house that i dont even notice until all power is lost.
