Backhoe Your Opinions please

I bought a M-59 TLB last December. Have about 135 hrs on it now. At about 125 hrs. was digging in med-hard clay and heard big bang. Cutting edge on backhoe bucket made clean straight break from where a tooth is welded on too back of cutting edge on diagonal. Kubota says not covered under warranty because it looks like I caught a couple of teeth on something. Huh, I thought backhoe buckets were made for heavy duty digging?

At times things will break...
that's hardened steel so the temper could have been toward the brittle...
A good Welder can fix that up with No problem, I think most all ware edges are excluded from warranty.. KennyV

Probably a faultly weldment leaving an embrittled area at tooth edge. Combine that with the stress riser from the notch formed by the tooth to bucket transition and its all over. Thats asking for a crack to start and they can then progress extremely quickly. It is possible only your bucket is flawed, but its probably an inherent procedural shortcoming in the mfg process. If so it will show up on others like it made by that supplier. I had a break like that on one specific tooth occur on my Loader Buddy bucket. Another purchaser had the same tooth break. None of the others break even used much harder. Probably welding order favored a poor preheat on that particular weld area. Magicheater stood behind it.:thumbsup: High strength steel as in a bucket edge/welded tooth require proper procedures. Yours didnt get it. Stand Kubota up.
