Hello everyone, I have a MF 1705 and I am looking for a used disc to pull behind my tractor. I live in central Illinois, and I wondered if maybe a few of you might know where I can look for one of these? I have checked Craigs list and the dealers around me but no luck. I hate to buy a new one...
I have a 2017 1705 that I bought this past summer it came with a block heater. This tractor stays in my garage all the time unless I am using it. The coldest I have ever seen it in my garage in the winter is 40 degrees. I was wondering if I should plug the block heater in when it is in there not...
Ok I drained some anti-freeze out of the 1705 prob about 1/2 gal or so added straight anti-freeze ran it for about 20 min got it nice and warm rechecked the freezing point and it now down to -25 Thanks everybody for all you help!!!
Well, I did contact the old owner on why the antifreeze was +10 degrees and he said that his plastic reserve tank developed a crack and a lot leaked out. So, he bought another plastic tank and just refilled the radiator with water. He also said the tractor was always kept in a heated shed and it...
Bought a used 1705 in July checked my antifreeze today to see how low my temp on my antifreeze checker said, and it said +10 degrees. And the radiator is full should I run it a bit and recheck or go ahead and drain some out and add more anti-freeze to get it down to -10 or-20 for the winter? I...
Has anybody ever relocated their seat on a 445 farther back than what it came with? My legs are so long I would like to move it back a little farther to make it more comfortable when mowing. I have moved it back by the adjustment holes but that is still kind of uncomfortable. If you have pics...
Yes, I will use the 1705 in the winter if we get heavy snows. But it is always in a heated garage when not in use. Temps get below 0 and sometimes windchill is -20 below.
Got an oil, change coming up in a while just bought this tractor a month ago, I'm curious what oil you use in your tractors or what is the best oil to use?
Well moved the seat back by the other set of holes and it still was a bit cramped, so I took it apart and used my cut off wheel to cut the stop off to make it go back farther. Now it goes back as far as it can go with good leg room.
Hello everyone, I am curious if anybody has repositioned there seat farther back by either drilling new holes or fabricating something? I have my seat back as far as it will go but I still feel cramped when operating the tractor. Man, it would be nice to have a couple more inches for my long old...
Well I talked to the local law enforcement here and they recommended at least 2 straps or chains in the rear as long as they were strong enough or weight limitations I should say. Then at least 1 chain or strap in the front with the same weight limits on it. So I am going to mock it up on the...
Here's another question do you use chains and lever binders or heavy ratchet straps to hold down your tractor on the trailer? Also do you use 2 in the front and rear or just 2?
Well AG tires came with the tractor the last 2-3 yrs not much snow but I'm always prepared. I plow my drive which is fairly large and not much slant and my 2 neighbors also and there about the same as mine. We get all kinds of snow here in central Illinois and of course lots of wind and drifts.
Well I am I really thought that I would have lots of room but after thinking about it I was wondering? I can make it work I can always roll the bucket up and that will give me a little more room. I just have to watch sharp turns.
It is a device that will bring the bucket back to ground level so it won't dig or turn up to keep everything level when you are digging dirt, snow etc.
They will not budge on price sad to say I cannot pay for a tractor 10 yrs. old at this price. When I can get a 2017 M-F GC 1705 with less hrs. for $12000 and free delivery plus they will install a bucket leveler for free on the tractor for $12000
Delivery is free, PTO speed was fine, yes it has 3-point hardware, no leaks, well-greased and maintained, the tractor has always been serviced by the implement company. They said he was a lawyer and only used in his spare time.
Hi everyone well looked at a 2013 1026R with 258 hrs. asking price is $12,900 it has a loader with leveler I would say the bucket looked well used. Tractor was clean tires good no leaks that I saw. Is this a fair price?
Ok looked at the GC1705 today a very clean tractor and very well taken care of. I was wrong on the hrs. it only has 210 hrs. and is a 2017. Got him down to $12000 and free delivery. Also, he will put a bucket leveler on there for me. what you guys think? I have some pics coming not good sharp...
Well that is what I was afraid of I really didn't know the selling price of new ones, if the tractor looks and runs good I will try to dicker with him if not so be it it is his tractor keep it. Also what are the pros and cons of the GC1705?
Hello everyone I am looking at a small utility tractor to buy to work around my property I have found a used one it is a 2017 GC1705 with 710 hours. They are asking $12,500 I don't have any pics yet but the one I saw on the ad it looked very clean but only one pic. is that a fair price or let me...
Well I really don't want to take it apart but I removed the seat, and the seat springs or whatever you call them. That left the 2 slides with WD-40 and a screwdriver and a small brass hammer I started tapping the the slides back and forth. Lots of dirt, rust and grass and black paint eventually...
Ok just bought a 1999 445 and when I can't get the seat back far enough for my long legs. It doesn't go back very far it stops. Is there a way to bypass this by relocating the seat?
I will keep that in mind I don't know how far it is from where I live but I will say I just bought a 1999 445 from a person here locally it has 1000 hrs. Cam, water pump, mower belt and battery all new well taken care of a one owner with all the paper work since Deere did all the work. Here's a...
Well went and checked out the 445 very clean and in fantastic shape new cam, water pump and has always been serviced by John Deere. 54 inch deck, snow plow and chains. he bought it new in 1999, $3500!! Pics coming very soon!!!
Well, if he hasn't replaced the cam gear, I will have to offer a lot lower price we will see!!! I'm also concerned if he replaced the water pump did it get real hot? Maybe I can tell the way it runs??
The guy got real mad at me for asking all the questions and he typed me the model number of the deck??? How am I to know that it is the right number? Called me a rocket scientist ha ha and said a 48 in deck is a 48 in deck get your (excuse the language) damn deck someplace else!!! So I don't...
I'm going to look at a 1999 445 Friday looks in very good shape has 1100 hrs. well taken care of. He said he replaced the water pump a year ago I don't know about the cam gear yet. Just fishing for the bads and the goods of this garden tractor.
Thanks so much!! I figured as much, this guy was just trying to make $500 off of somebody! I will keep looking and in the meanwhile just keep welding the old one up!!
I didn't take the photos the guy sent them to me that is trying to sell it to me. I have them on my e-mail on my home computer. I am not very computer savvy that's why I don't know how to move them to this forum.
I would certainly post the pics but I really don't know how??? All I know is by the pics that he sent it looks like the brackets on the deck are outside of the mower itself instead of underneath the body of the mower like mine is on the 425. If you have an e-mail address I could send them to you?
Ok the guy sent me 2 pics of this mower deck. Here is the number on the deck tell me if it will fil my 425 John Deere. MO48CAA078200. It says it is a 48C Convertible??? It looks diff where the lift arms are? I hope someone can help me on this??
Hi everybody my question is I'm looking for a smaller mower deck for my 425 I have found one that this guys says will fit? I am currently waiting on pics. I have a 54 inch but it has been welded so many times and is just about shot. Does anybody have any pics of a 48 inch so I can compare with...
Hello everyone, my question is, is there an adj on the forward or reverse pedals on the 425? Forward is fine but reverse is slow and sometimes not at all. Now if I push the reverse pedal down farther under the floor pan a bit it runs fine. Hope you can help me?
Thanks weeder
Hello everyone, was wondering what the correct way is to check the transaxle oil level in a 1997 425? I've heard to screw the dipstick all the way down and I've heard to just let it sit on top of the threads? So thought somebody could clarify this for me?
Thks weeder
Well, no leaks so far, I will drain out the fluid and change out the filter and replace it with the Hy Gard oil. If the seal comes out again, I will replace it.
Ok I have ran the tractor with the tires off and jacked up. My question is I didn't want to go buy that expensive John deere oil for my transaxle so I put 5w-30 synthetic in it for my test. Do yoy think that will hurt it??
I would love to take a pic but I can't get my ph camera down in that position to do so, sorry. I'm going to run the tractor for a bit and see if it stays in place. If it doesn't I will have to pull the transaxle completely out to correctly replace the seal.
Well took your advice and blew all the crap out of there that I could reach with air. Lo and behold I looked down on the shaft for the parking brake and there was a seal that had popped out of the case. I took a very long and skinny pry bar and did my best to push it back in. I will rig up my...
Thanks oldnslo , I have cleaned it off as much as I can and yes it does look like it is coming out of the left side someplace. I will probably take the transaxle out and clean it better and re \look the situation over better! Yes an air hose or power washer will do the trick!!!
Thks weeder
Hello everyone, I have noticed that most of my oil in my transaxle has leaked out. I looked on both sides and it seems to be pretty dry. It looks like it is mostly wet underneath? Wonder where this is coming from. Any ideas????
Thks weeder
My engine is hard to start and runs a little rough, was wondering what might be a good additive to add to the gas to help clean out the carb? This is on a John Deere 425 with a Kawasaki engine.
Thks Weeder
Looking at maybe getting a new lawn tractor I have been looking at the John Deere X330 what do you guys think??? I have to mow over an acre and have snow in the winter just curious.
Thks weeder
Hi everyone been a while since I was here. Got a problem I can't keep my mower belt from coming off when I mow. I put a new one on this winter and mowed 1 time and it jammed up and made it useless. So I put the old one back on and mowed a couple of times and it has now come off. Everything seems...
Hi everyone, I have 425 1996 model, I noticed today that the level of oil is low.... This is not engine oil but this is checked under the seat and has a dipstick. Is this regular HYD oil to add or a special John Deere oil? I don't have any books for this garden tractor.
Thks weeder......
Hi everyone, I think the starter in the 425 is going out, do I have to pull the engine to replace it? How can a person check the starter to see if it is the starter? Now it is mowing season so it figures something like this would happen! Ok I will sit back and wait for replys!!!!
Well my old mower deck is about done, one of the front brackets that holds the bar (and I don't know what it is called) from the front of the tractor has broken off. Way to thin to weld on where it was. So I moved it closer to the other one a tad and rewelded it. It is holding for now hope it...
Does anybody know what years the 318 with Onan engines came with points? I don't know much about these engines and would really like some input on them if anybody knows?
Thanks weeder
HI everyone, a friend of mine stopped by the other day and wanted me to post this on here. He has a 1986 318 and it has sat for about a year. He wants to try and get it going but when he turns the key all it does it clicks. He has replaced the following.
1. PTO Switch
2. Neutral Safety switch...
Hey guys, I would like to see as many pics of garden plows with 3 pt hitches behind there garden tractors. Just curious of what I might need to look for in doing my 425.
Thanks weeder
I saw where when you are replacing the plastic gear cam on a 425 that you need to go to a different valve spring? Is this the case? What are they heavier and can take more force due to a steel gear?
Your thoughts on this
Thanks weeder
Well I have been messing with this 425 and have come to the conclusion that the cam is bad. Had plenty of fuel, and plenty of spark but wouldn't even try to fire. I pulled off one of the valve cover gaskets and the vales and push rods were not moving. Is this a hard job to fix? My neighbor gave...
Hi guys, I have a 1997 425 that my neighbor gave to me because they could not get it running. They have no books on this thing. Can a guy get a troubleshooting manual and a regular manual for this old of a mower? Thanks
I have a 1996 425 John Deere lawn tractor 20 hp Kawasaki engine FD620D. I have spark at the plugs but it shoots out air and fuel out of the top of the carb. Someone told me to get a carb kit. I did and it does the same thing. Could the timing be off? This is still a good lawn tractor I would...
