A Step Above An 8N
Model Year: 1953

I bought this old tractor with a Wagner front-end loaded attached. It is not reliable, hard to start, and the front-end loader makes the tractor very difficult to steer due to no power steering. 8N was far more reliable, but both are so far outdated they are almost useless. I grew up and farmed 50 acres with an 8N for plowing, setting tobacco, cutting and baling hay. Yes, an 8N will run a hay baler and a Cub for cultivating. Like me, these tractors are worn out and too old for any real work anymore.

Pros: Live power
Cons: Hard to start

Great Little Tractor
Model Year: 1953

I've owned my Jubilee for a couple of years now. Before that it had been through other members of my family since the early 60's. It's a little rough, and is getting some much needed TLC bit by bit, but it runs and operates. The one thing I can say for this tractor is that I work it, and it keeps on going. By work it I mean I haul - foot round bales of hay fairly often, with each bale weighing between 800-1,000 pounds. I use it to blade snow in the winter, and I have a 4 by 6 foot disc that I use to turn the dirt in my horse pen. People look at me crazy when I tell them these things because it's such a small tractor, but at the same time, if people would study the history of these little guys, they would quickly learn that the Jubilee was built for farm work. It was built to plow, and cultivate. It was built to work and pull fairly heavy loads. Besides being a little light in the front end for carrying so much weight, this tractor is a beast. I've been looking for front-wheels that will accept weights but they're kind of hard to find for this tractor since I want to wheels to maintain as close to the original look as possible. Once I find the wheels and weights that I desire, this little beast will be unstoppable.

Pros: Absolute Beast for such a small tractor
Cons: Not enough weight in the front for the work I do with it

Father's Tractor
Model Year: 1953

My father bought this jubilee in 1953 when I was 7 years old. He used it to farm about 10 acres of cotton and corn for about twenty years, and then for garden and bush hog work until he passed away in 2002. I have now built a house on some on the land and I use the tractor to keep the hay field bush hogged and to do other work around the land. This tractor has been serviced regularly and has always been stored inside a shed or barn where it is today. I started discing with this tractor when I was about 11 years old. I had to stand on the clutch to disengage it when I began using it. I use it now, but may want to restore it in the future. It is still in very good condition.

Pros: Great machine
Cons: Stubborn hydraulics, fuel bowl leaks

NAA
Model Year: 1953

I have an old NAA that I picked up at auction. I replaced a Ford 8N with it. The tractor has been completely reliable the entire time I have had it. No major issues or repairs. It has been a much better tractor than the 8N reliability wise. Nothing fancy, but it starts every time, even in winter.

Pros: Cheap reliable.
Cons: No hydraulic connections, although you can add them.

In the process of rebuilding, not restoring. Will be a work tractor for the rest of its life. Engine is ready to go back in. Wheel rims are power-coated, and new tires ordered.

Pros: Good old tractor.
Cons: Old tractor.

Jub Does Everything I Need it To!
Model Year: 1954

I pull trees, grade 1/2 mile of drive, move tons of rock, drill post holes, and mow 10 acres. In winter plows snow off six drives. Can't do without it.

Pros: Dependable.
Cons: Nothing fancy like the new tractors.

Jubilee Gold!
Model Year: 1953

Most of my life on the ranch has been lots of hard work. Even the Jubilee has needed a compression kit, a few seals and a few sediment bulb replacements. However, if you need to repair and maintain a tractor yourself. If I were younger, I'd by one in a minute.

Pros: No electronics to stop it from doing it's job or your job.
Cons: Need better cush for my tush and back at this stage of the game.

D.K.'s NAA
Model Year: 1953

I got this tractor pretty cheap after it was left in the woods for a couple of years or more. Gas tank needed redone, carb. rebuilt, distributor was rusted badly, etc. They are not the most powerful tractor, and it lacks live power at the P.T.O. If you really like the looks which I do, and the simple controls, then you would like the N.A.A. Plus the parts are reasonable and easy to find.

Pros: Easy to work on and operate.
Cons: No live power at power take off.

My New/Old Tractor
Model Year: 1953

Just the right size for what I want to do (large veggie garden and small amount of trellised fruit trees, berries and grapes), I have a neighbor farming my larger acreage. I grew up with an 8N, so this is familiar to me. In excellent shape and seems all original---except that like so many in the 1960's someone painted it Ford blue, to make it look trendy, I assume. So I will be lightly restoring it and at the same time returning to Ford red and grey/original colors.

Pros: I basically know this tractor from prior 8N experience.
Cons: Need to remember it's size and HP.

Great Lil Tractor
Model Year: 1953

This was my grandfathers tractor and has been handed down the generations. It has sat now for 10+ years I've pulled it out of the weeds and I am in the middle of restoring it.

Pros: Just about the right size to get around the homestead.
Cons: Limited attachments.

Just An Old Tractor
Model Year: 1953

Tractor is older than me, carb float sticks and floods, gets mediocre gas mileage, but it has pulled stumps, lifted boulders, plowed my driveway, dragged logs, plowed the garden, hauled trailers, pulled the brush hog. Earned its $2500 price tag.

Pros: Not complicated, can still find parts.
Cons: Difficult steering, poor gas economy, noisey.

I purchased my 1953 Golden Jubilee about 15 years ago. It has been a very dependable tractor over the years. Like all equipment, a good maintenance program is required. I like the live lift, I wish that model had a live P.T.O. This model tractor is, in my opinion a lot better tractor than the 8N due to the live lift. Overall this is a good tractor to garden with as this is what I mostly use it for.

Pros: Live lift.
Cons: Does not have live P.T.O.

1953 Golden Jubilee
Model Year: 1953

Completely restored, no overhaul, switched over to 12 volt with alternator, otherwise tractor is original except for the light grey paint (white) that was not used until 1964. Original paint would have been medium grey. I used the light grey (white) because it gave a better appearance and appeal. Tractor was completely disassembled, each part sanded and painted separately and reinstalled. Many parts were replaced with new as well as all fluids and lubricants. All new tires and tubes. I have more money in hours of labor and new parts than I will every get out of this tractor. I must say, this is an enormous task, not knowing how much work this would take before starting this process. Nearly every bolt and nut were replaced with new.

Pros: More work than it is worth.
Cons: Knowing it is done right.
