Best Compact Tractor. Sorry It's Gone.
Model Year: 2005
We did major research before settling on Case/New Holland. I liked the twin hydro pedal, power to weight ratio, loader capability, size of machine, and fair price. Everything we wanted pointed to Case IH/New Holland compact tractors. We found a good deal on new old-stock 2005 Case IH DX35 tractor with loader and loaded rear tires, so dad bought it. We moved up from a John Deere 2520 then to a John Deere 3320 and finally to a real tractor, the Case IH DX35 (even though I worked at a John Deere dealer at the time). I love virtually everything about this tractor: hydro shifter on the joystick, toolbox, extendable lower links, quality of build, flat floor, and shared styling with the larger Case tractors. We've bush-hogged, trimmed trees from bucket, ran a rototiller, hauled logs/firewood, graded yards, pulled hay rides. It is just awesome, easy tractor to run. The Shibuara 3-cylinder engine is easy on fuel and adequate, but another 5-10 horsepower would've been nice for power take-off applications sometimes. No real complaints. Just wish Case/New Holland still sourced them from Shibaura. The LS-built tractors are okay, but don't seem as serious as the older Shibaura-built units. Unfortunately, dad sold the DX for financial reasons. Didn't realize what we had till it was gone. I'm looking for a DX40 or DX45 to replace it now that I have some land.
Pros: Integrated tool box, 4-range hydro electric shift, size, twin hydro pedals, weight, looks like a Magnum, extendable lower links
Cons: Fuel filler neck at back a little hard to fill with a jug, noisy hydraulic lines.
