If a Basic Tractor is What You Are Looking
Model Year: 1988
No frills machine. The 1494 is really the last in a lineage of David Browns and it shows. Due to the origins as a 2WD machine, traction in the field is not great compared to other 4WDs as front:rear balance isn't really optimal. The back end is not very heavy, a cat I system, it'll do the job for most stockmen, but it wouldn't really be heavy enough for much modern equipment. We had a half-shaft shear on ours, the gearbox selectors break and (not serious but irritating) persistent leaks in the clutch & brake pedal master/slave cylinders and now the main hydraulics are playing up. It is a fuel efficient machine and will do you a turn... at the money its decent value, but you may wish you'd shelled out a few thousand more for an alternative.
Pros: Fuel efficient.
Cons: It's the last of a tired design being extended a bit beyond what it's comfortable with.
