Reviving My 1979 Case 644
Model Year: 1979
I bought this tractor new in late 1979; the year my daughter was born. I've worked it past what anyone could expect from a small unit. It finally blew a piston rod in about 2008 and has been on my back burner since then. It went through a ton of people trying to get it back to working condition again. I would have saved a ton of money and time if I just bought a new 14-horsepower Kohler and dropped it, as my wife suggested. But being a man, I wanted to keep the original power plant. I finally semi-retired in February of this year and have some time now to do it myself. I am proud to say the motor runs today. I still have a lot to clean up and redo though. Anyone interested in old Case 644s, I'd be happy to hear from. There are not many of them around. The dealer said Case didn't make that many, so I'm hard at it and happy.
Pros: Runs its heart out for what it's built for and then some
Cons: Hard to find original parts to rebuild or restore
