A Good Light Duty Commercial Mower for the Money

I purchased this mower as a back-up from Home depot when the were clearing out their stock. I paid $300 and the unit was a floor model. It is very reliable and starts on the first pull if not started on a steep slope, where the carb. floods. The catcher is sturdy and easily removed. My main complaint is the wheels. Their plastic and need replacing yearly. This is my first non-Lawn Boy walk behind mower. I have been spoiled for decades by LawnBoy mowers with their superior 2 stroke engine and ease of repair. I have been forced to buy another manufacturer because the new LawnBoy mowers are pathetic compared to the older ones.

Pros: Reliable.
Cons: Cheap plastic wheels.

I am a retired propulsion engineer and I am very dissatisfied with this lawn mower. I bought it at a local Home Depot in August 2012 after I research many models in consumers reports. The problems are with the carburetor that cause a "no start or extremely hard to start condition". We paid a lot of money for this and we are very disappointed with this Honda product. As I write this the mower is in a Honda Sales and Service center in Deptford, New Jersey for the above condition. I will update this review when the covered (warranty) repairs are made just to be far to Honda.

Pros: Nice mower when its running, BUT...
Cons: No start/extremely hard to start.

Mower Choke Reliality

Mower performed excellently right out of the box. Started on 1st or 2nd pull after fuel and oil added. Continued to perform and start reliably for the remainder of the 1st season. Mower was increasingly hard to start at the beginning of the 2nd season. Issue was eventually resolved by completely cleaning the automatic choke mechanism on the carburetor using carburetor parts cleaner and lubricating the choke shaft after researching the issue on the Internet. Starting has been absolutely reliable since then with 1st or 2nd pull starts.

Pros: Easy of operation, height adjust, starting.
Cons: Reliability of automatic choke mechanism.

Honda HER is Horrible
Model Year: 2012

Had trouble with fuel system, blades were not torqued from factory, self propulsion failed, shakes so badly the bolts & taps come loose & fall out. Honda warranty is virtually worthless.

Pros: None.
Cons: Very poor quality mower. Honda warranty repair service could not be worse.
