Beware that the transmission oil filter is attached to a threaded sleeve of transmission housing - both of which are aluminum and unprotected. A branch knocked and broke the filter off. The cost to repair estimate is $5000.

Love Tractor, Dislike Mower Deck

I purchased this with a loader and mid-size bucket, rototiller, snowblower, and mower deck. Although we also own a 2010 NH 3045 Boomer [45 horsepower], this little John Deere tractor quickly became a favorite of both my wife and I for small jobs; cleaning chicken coop, yard maintenance trimming bushes, etc. However, the shaft driven mower deck and snowblower is under powered with 25 horsepower. I'd recommend the 2035 for this. The rototiller works great and the little loader is fantastic for small, tight jobs. The mower deck is not the 'easy' quick attach. It costs more and the dealer said if the pro shaft is not well greased and dirt, sand, or soil free the quick attach power take-off does not slide together well. He said I could buy the optional pro shaft protective sleeve but if I need to lay under to pull the protective sleeve off I might as well manually hook up the manual pro coupling and save some money as compared to the frustration of the more expensive quick attach pro coupling that requires constant cleaning. Also, believe it or not, the expensive shaft driven stamped mower deck vibrates and shakes, is underpowered and easily outperformed by my commercial Ferris zero-turn mower, especially when trimming under fences and conditioning the hay field spring and fall cutting. Also for mowing the tractor turning radius sucks. Overall, love the tractor, loader, and rototiller. I hung the mower deck on the tractor shed wall with no plans of using again, a waste of money.

This tractor is fun to operate and own. However, without the bush hog on the back, going down a hill the right rear wheel comes off the ground. I have to lean to that side to get it back on the ground. This is a hazard and something John Deere should have thought about. Now what to do, am I to fill the tires, buy wheel weights, or what? I should not have to do either but to feel safe operating I must do something.

Pros: Love no clutch, easy operation
Cons: Not enough weight on the rear end of the tracto

2025R Check Levels Constantly

I got my 2025R new. I put on 11 hours, then had a warranty call for low hydraulic levels. There were no leaks and the machine wouldn't move. I got it back and the coolant level was low. It was good for the year pushing snow, mowing, tilling and doing road work. After the 1 year service, I got it back from dealer, put on 3 hours, and had another warranty call. It had low coolant and high oil. I am getting ready to make 3rd warranty call for a low hydraulic level. What I have learned: The cooling system needs power filled and tends to have air pockets. The hydraulic level can only show a slight bubble or there are going to be issues. I am not impressed by my dealer in any way. It is a great machine when it is not having issues. I would never deal with John Deere again due to issues with dealer service.

Pros: Strong and easy to use
Cons: Hard for dealer to get air pockets out of hydraulics and coolant systems

2025R Review
Model Year: 2015

I've used the 2025 enough now, with three implements and some loader work, to review it. It's my fourth tractor. The 2025 is a beefier version of my second tractor, a JD 4010 with position control on the 3-point hitch.. It seems to also have a slightly more modulated startup of the power take-off, but not as smooth as the startup on my 1025R. The slam-on power take-off of the 4010 very likely destroyed its drive shaft coupling that caused me to part with it after nine years. This is the best FEL I've had: It is faster than the 4010 and more goof proof in response than the 1025s. It also seems to be more of a "digger" than any of these three. The Gravely doesn't count on this tally. The bush hog works on the factory setting of the 3-point hitch, but there isn't much lift, and it rides somewhere about mid point or higher on the position control in mowing position. A more ideal setting is to use the top hole in the vertical 3-point hitch member. The lift is rather high, and "2" on the position control is almost exactly 2" off the ground. This is with my Frontier RC 2048 lift pins in the lower position. (My 4010 was delivered with its LX-4 bush hog lift pins in the upper position. This didn't work because of simple geometry. Lifting the LX-4 would drive the tail wheel into the ground because the top link was too long.) However, I had to reset the vertical 3-point hitch member back to the middle hole to attach my carryall. So, I replaced the factory cotter pins with quick pull pins. There's no higher hole on the carryall to move the lift pins to. Attaching my MacKissic TPH-122 chipper/shredder worked fine with the 3-point hitch vertical member in the middle hole. It may attach with it in the upper holes, too. However, the turnbuckles that tighten the lift arm swing are just short enough to slide the lift arms onto the Mac's category 0 lift pins. Running both the bush hog and the Mac at 2,700 RPM vs. the "power take-off" speed of 3,000 gives plenty of horsepower. I ran the bush hog through some very high brush/small trees at one point in cutting a new trail around a huge downed tree that's unsafe to easily cut. I've re-purposed both the bush hog's and the tractor's document holders. The top of the tractor's document holder is now a much more acceptable cup holder than the dinky factory indent one. It's attached to the right side FEL tower. The bottom of the bush hog document holder is now my fire extinguisher holder. It's much more sturdy and secure for this than the fire extinguisher's clamp that I attached to the same place (to the right side fender) on the 4010. One big negative on the 2025 is the folding ROPS. OSHA should allow a non-folding ROPS like was on the 4010. It fit nicely underneath all four garage doors plus the carriage house basement doorway. These doorways are all safe as long as the ROPS on the 2025 stays folded. I'm not. John Deere, maybe a "halo" over the radiator area would allow you to interpret the OSHA rules to allow a less-than-doorway-height non-folding ROPS? Give us something we'll use, for safety.

Pros: 3-point hitch position control, long run model, great front end loader
Cons: Bad hood design for access, Kubota's B2301 is better; folding, useless ROPS

2025R

Awesome tractor, but I wish the 270A fit on a 2025R! The added hydraulics of a 2032R would be really nice with the convince of the 270A. Has an annoying rattle from a heat shield. That is my only complaint so far. I would likely have gone with the greater hp if I could do it again. All about the hydraulics and available fluid for implements and faster loader times. My advice is if you plan to do more loader and any backhoe work go with at least a 2025R and avoid the 1 family. If you are mostly mowing and once in a while moving mulch or topsoil the one would be okay. I believe the 2025r is really the smallest you want for a couple acres and small backhoe work. You will always want more power so buy the most hp you can afford and that will fit where you need to store it. As for the 270A, I love the mounting system. So easy. And surprisingly powerful.

Pros: Cheap, fits in garage, quite, easy to use.
Cons: Limited hydraulics, heat shield rattle.

Easy!

Tractor is a blast to use and easy to remove and connect attachments. Used snowblower lots last winter and very strong. Mow 5 acres and continuously use front loader and fork lift. Everything works well. It does make lots of noise in 4WD especially with the front loader full. Always looking for an excuse to hop on and go.

Pros: Appearance, reliability.
Cons: Pricey.

Luv This Tractor

I traded in a JD 750 which I had for almost 25 years which was an excellent tractor. Got the 2025R with a 62 inch mower, front snowblower, loader and forklift. Really like the ease of changing attachments and everything works well. On the negative side, the engine spits, sputters and smokes when starting below 35 degrees. Also there is some strange noise from the snowblower PTO which sounds like a chain hitting the bottom of the tractor. Called the dealer about it but they didn't look it over and said everything is okay. It only happens during the first minute or so. I assume it's ice on the shaft.

Pros: Appearance, power, ease of using attachments, hydraulic power.
Cons: Snowblower PTO shaft noise.

New 2032R not 2025R

I have had my 2032R now for a few months and, I have to say, I am overall very pleased with my purchase. It has so much more power than my NH 26DA and the features it has has pleased me well. I have been away from home a lot and not had much time to play much with my new toy but still have managed to put 25 hrs. on her. I have several things I love about my new tractor and just a few negatives. I love the quick connect MMM and FEL. These two items convinced me to purchase this tractor. My NH was a pain to put the deck on, or take off. On my JD I can have the MMM and FEL on or off in less than three minutes and only get off the tractor once. The power is the other impressive part that I enjoy about the JD. My NH would start up a hill mowing and if in high would sit there and whine at me. The JD laughs and wants more. I setup my JD with a rear power and use it with a hydraulic top link with my box blade. I cleared and made a swell in no time and cleaned up another area quick. I know part of this was not having to get off the tractor to adjust the top link but the pulling power didn't hurt none. My complaint list is short, but important points the same. I experienced a rock valve failure the first hour of operation. My dealer did fix this within a week and brought my old tractor back for me to use while they repaired my new tractor. This is a plus on my dealers behalf. I also had them adjust the MMM deck height as it seems to mow at 3.5"-4" that I have to have the rock arm set to 9 which is almost all the way up. This is the best they could get it. I think this is more of a design flaw than my dealer's fault. My other issue is there is now locking mechanism that comes with the deck to hold up the lift arms when the deck is removed. Hate paying almost $200 to purchase something that should be standard. I hate to not give 5 stars all the way but had to take off for the negatives I did have. My one big complaint for this tractor is the RIO. This is a tractor. Why JD put this on a tractor I will never know. Oh yes I do---it is a legal thing and the lawyer way out. This should be an option that I could switch on and off. Anyone operating a motorized vehicle is responsible for the control of that vehicle. I am sorry some lady mowed over her child in reverse but I should not have to pull a switch every time I want to mow in reverse, or have my tractor die because I forgot to pull it. Overall my 2032R is a great tractor. I see many years of great service coming from her and can't wait for more playtime. I am all set for winter with my 60" blower attached and even installed a hydraulic chute rotator. Snowblowing should be a blast.

Cons: MMM deck height. RIO sucks on a tractor.
