John Deere 260
Model Year: 0
Simple lawn and garden tractor. I bought it used from a Toro dealer with 600+ hours on it. I think it is from the mid '80's. The mower deck (42") has not held up well, but other than that, not much to complain about. Wish it had hydraulics as I use it to plow snow with a 48" snow plow. The tractor has been dead reliable. It has a 16.5 horse Kawasaki single piston engine and a 6 speed manual transmission. I've used this tractor to pull way more weight than I ever should have, but it is never a problem. The tires will spin long before bogging down the engine, especially in the lower gears, and I have chains on with cast iron wheel weights year round. This tractor is solid, but I do look forward to getting a compact utility tractor someday soon. I wish Deere still made one with a manual; I hate hydro-static transmissions. I'm looking at Kioti for this reason.
Pros: Reliability, durability, performance.
Cons: No hydraulics (on mine anyway).
