Strong Basic Tractor - HS nice feature at this price
Model Year: 2013
I just bought a Kioti DS4510HS and have used it about 5 hours so these are only initial impressions. I’ve worked with several other machines (listed below) and these are more references for comparison. So far, I am entirely pleased with this purchase. However, there are many things about this tractor than you can’t learn from tractordata.com or that are miscommunicated / poorly communicated on other internet sources. I will focus on these issues. Coparitors: JD 110TLB, JD4300 (hydro), Kioti LB1914 (mechanical shuttle), Bobcat 300T, Satoh Buck & Beaver (gear). - engine torque characteristics are wonderful – torque seems flat from idle (1000 RPM) to the 1700 RPM rated torque peak (~104 ft-pouds). Torque gradually decreases at faster engine speeds. Usability at low engine speeds was a pleasant surprise for me as it was not the case with the Kioti LB1914 or JD4300, both of which seem to need to rev at least to the mid teens to do real work. - loader hydraulics are very usable at idle. 1st gear at idle is 0.4 mph and this is perfect for pushing into piles. Loader responsiveness at idle is well matched to the 0.4 mph speed and has never failed to curl and lift while idling forward into a pile of wet soil. Can lift rear at idle. -visibility to the bucket seems better than most other tractors. The JD 110TLB is the notable exception. The 110TLB has the best forward visibility of any loader tactor I've driven. However, the left hand hydraulic shuttle on the DS4510HS allows me to stand and at 6’3” I can see the leading edge of the bucket and operate the hydraulic reverser with my left hand with both feet flat on the floor. This gives me skid steer like visibility for fine bucket work. You can’t do that with a hydrostatic tranny without standing on one foot. -Stability is impressive. - factory tow bar rated at 1650 pounds tongue weight (a hard to find spec that is important to some including me) - turning radius is tight making this large frame CUT maneuver in the woods better than expected. -seat position too cramped for 6’3” operator. This was easily fixed by fabricating new seat mounting brackets that raise the seat 2” and move it back 2.5”. Now the seat is perfect for me in the rear most position. -Screaming value at 19.5K new with 4 yr warrantee for a 45hp large frame CUT with hydraulic reverser. -This is marketed as a value tractor. If you are looking for amenities look else ware (for example no cup holder). I will not mark this tractor down for this fact because it is not marketed as a premium tractor. A reverser with twin multi disk hydraulic clutches is one more amenity than I ever expected on a value tractor in this price range. - Main tranny is NOT Synchronize – this is poorly communicated on the Kioti web site and mis-communicated by some professional reviews. This means you have to come to a stop or close to a stop to change gears. If you understand how collar shift transmissions work, you can double clutch / rev match to shift on the fly. Many a farmer has been doing this for years. Upshifts are easily learned by most. Down shifts especially on rolling terrain only mastered by a few. -hydraulic reverser not idiot proof – you must pause for a moment in neutral otherwise you can sometimes get a strange noise which I think occurs if the current clutch pack does not have time to entirely disengage before the opposite direction clutch back engages. For this reason I wouldn’t recommend this tranny for people with irresponsible employees. Bottom line – this is a lot of tractor for the money. It can work very well for the mechanically minded operator. However, it is not simple to operate well the way a hydrostatic tranny is simple to operate well. For the experienced / coordinated operator, it can be nearly as efficient as a hydrostatic tranny tractor. For the inexperienced / mechanically challenged operator, it will be much, much slower to operate than a hydrostatic machine.
Pros: low RPM engine torque, HS tranny, stability, loader hydraulics at low RPM
Cons: 4wd can be hard to engage, non-synchronized main gear box, fuel fill is high on hood
