Update on Family August 19th

I am sorry I haven稚 updated anyone in about a week. But everything was progressing well.

But today痴 update is both good and bad. Joy, my wife, has been released from Select Specialty Hospital. Yesterday Monday August 18th she was transferred to the Rehab at Baptist hospital here in Nashville. The doctors, nurses and staff at Select were marvelous. She tells me she would recommend everyone who has pulmonary or wound care needs this is the best place to be.

Dr. Lamb, on the morning she was transferred, ordered a culture to be done as he was redressing her leg wound to see what was happening. There is one place that isn稚 healing, as he desired. Hopefully the culture will identify the bacteria and she can get the right antibiotic. Personally Joy and I both are hoping she can accomplish her rehab quickly. Joy wants to get home real bad. We are praying she can be home by Labor Day September 1st. That means she has 12 days.

Johannah, my grand daughter hopefully had her last operation yesterday. I called her room a little after 4:00 p.m. to check on her. I talked to Christine, one of Jean痴 best friends, all I could hear was Johannah crying and screaming in the background. She had just returned to her room from recovery. The doctors did a skin graph on her open wound on her right thigh. They took the skin needed from her left thigh. Nurses have told me that a skin graph is extremely painful. The nurse was getting her a pain shot while I was on the phone. I had to hang up the phone, I just couldn稚 stand to hear that kid in such pain. I don稚 know Jean does it but I guess God equips mothers differently than he does grandfathers.

Jean and I talked after church on Sunday about how many times Johannah has been in the Operating Room and Jean said she has lost count but it is probably somewhere around 10 or 12 times.

Please pray for Johannah that this will be her last surgery and the skin graph takes, she doesn稚 get an infection and Joy痴 culture will come back with good news.

Thanks for all your prayers, kind words, and expressions of love. You will never know how much it has meant to my family and me to know you are praying.

The wound is fairly long and it is opening up in one place. He, Dr. Lamb, is trying something if this doesn't work he might have to open it up and start from the beginning again.

Joy asked me to ask everyone to pray she heals. She said and I quote, "I do not want to go backwards. I want to continue to heal. They are actually saying if what they are trying now doesn't work she might need to go back to Select Specialty Hospital and go back on a wound vacuum again.

Please earnestly pray she will heal.

Alternative Treatments for Wounds: Leeches, Maggots, and Bees

Thanks. The doctors are not using leeches or maggots but the are using an artificial kind of leech or maggot. The put what is called a wound vacuum on the wound to suck the blood and junk from her wound. The also us a salve which eat away the dead skin and tissue, they try to keep all the dead flesh removed. When they go a few day with only seeing bright red flesh they close up another portion of the wound. So far they have about 5 inches of a 10 inch wound closed using this method.

Yes the old fashion ways do still work.
