I believe since you made the father in laws money comment you are talking about McCain.
If you are not I apologize if you are however I want to at least correct you on this. I believe McCain had at least one job. It was working for the United States Navy. That is a job I am proud to say I have also had at one time in my life. I see a lot of politicians that talk about how much they love their country or what they are willing to give up for it. McCain is the only one that has stepped up to the plate and literally put his body on the line for an idea. When McCain was offered the chance to go home from Hanoi he knew how much that would play out in propaganda for our enemies. He chose to stay and face years of torture so that they would not be able to use him like that. Whether his politics are good or bad, whether he deserves to be president, that is a choice that in our own minds we have to make. He does however deserve respect for refusing to go home before it was his turn when he was a POW.

I understand completely---I held your view---however my dear uncle who walked the Bataan death march and survived held Mc in low esteem for what he did after he came home----He left his wife went to "work" in Washington chasing every woman in DC---I didn't say single--just like he did in the naval academy---such high grades cause he studied all the time---My uncle was a loyal Republican to his death---but he never forgave Mc for using his war record and not living a moral and ethical life after that abuse. He said it could have been a metal thing but he was afraid it was a character flaw because he had exhibited that behavior during his high school and naval academy years---my uncle did alot of personal research because he worked with alot of military personal from Fort Polk and Barksdale. However he never could get over the fact that Mc married a 24 year old rich girl (left the wife that had faithfully waited for him to come home from war and children for a younger woman)and lived the good life in DC with her back in Arizona. My uncle came home after that terrible march weighing 89 LBs his wife nursed him back to health and they were never able to have children.(he treated me my sister and younger brother like his own, in fact my brother is still in the Navy hoping to be captain soon!!)---After my uncles death I promised that I would not vote for him no matter what. He gave a heck of a price for this country---but one aw shucks wipes out 99 "at a boys" at my house. If he really cares about this country now he would realize that a Seventy year old man is not on the top of his game---this has become personal with him not COUNTRY!!!! My uncle never used a seat belt in a car or had a roll bar on any tractor ---He believe in the FREEDOM OF CHOICE!!!!

Please dont misunderstand me I dont want to get into his politics or what he has done or who he has married. I am just pointing out that being in the navy was a real job something that was commented he never had. Being a vietnam veteran I bristle a bit when someone states that being in the navy is not a real job. I also am pointing out that he deserves respect for his acts when he was a POW. What he has done since then may be deplorable I dont think so but that is an opinion. However at least once in his life he has done something honorable. I am not sure how many politicians we have that you can say that about.

As far as the politics go I am doing something that i find my self doing a lot the last few elections. It is something that I find deplorable but necessary. I am voting against one particular candidate rather than voting for someone. The last candidate that I actually voted for as a good choice was Ronald Reagon, The last one before that was Jimmy Carter. All too often we have to vote for the less undesirable candidate.

I would however be happy to vote for the candidate that says he will give me freedom of choice in how to equip my tractor as far as safety implements go.

Yep Right on! But then I realized that was already happening. Called Government Pension and Pension from a Previous Employer that makes the Government one Pale in comparison!:p:p

So. one could say I already have a job that pays to roam the INTERNET or do whatever I wish!:p:p

Can't argue with that.. nor would I.. seems like a 'dream job'!

This thread is on the edge of the political abyss. Too bad because it had some great commentary.

How about after market ROPS? Does the insurance industry care? How about the manufacturer? Are they classified as acceptable modifications?

IMHO.. it depends on the rops certifications.. if the rops is certified for a certain tractor.. then I imagine it qualifies.. IE.. meets osha requirements for employee use.. etc.

Guys.. lets get off the direct political commentary.. we are up on 2 wheels as it is.. and there's a blind curve up ahead. If ya want the thread to stay open.. we can lay it between the lines.. or pm it.. but lets keep the direct stuff down to a loud murmur

I think what most of us mean when we say some of those in the political class never had a real job is while their work may be real, they nonetheless have never had to meet a payroll or make a go of it in a business. They may have a budget to live inside of, but I doubt there's many cases where they have to live with the thought that failure means you go out of business.

In dealing with my active duty counterparts through the years, we held similar discussions and I found they usually don't have a concept of profit. They operate in a closed socialist system and private enterprise is outside their experience. For this reason, I don't think retired military who have never worked in the private sector have the qualifications to be regulating private industry. This is not to diminish their service at all, its just the way it is.
The same goes for career politicians who may have worked in a profession for a few years and received "W-2" wages and then joined the political class.

And for the fellow who thinks that government regulators know it all................please...

I tell you, just like private industry, some people are very good at their jobs. Others not so good. Organizations the same. That being said, some parts of the government work, some do not. The regulators certainly do not know it all, but what they have been fed, they must follow to the law.

When the general speaks everyone listens or else----It is hard for the General to learn to compromise and work in the democratic system---My way are the highway---Career Military has a hard time in this undisciplined world--- rules and laws are made for everyone----some think it is made for everyone else but them!!!!----One Life saved---what is that cost---Until you answer that question we will never have free and fair trade---one life saved---does it matter if it is here or in China----Safety is Safety---Rollbars on tractors have cost the Food Chain alot of money---Air Bags in Cars have cost the Transportation sector alot of money----A shovel and a hoe and a Train ride will cut those cost--Who is willing to do that for Safety's sake!!!

I will certainly agree with that. I don't mean to demean government workers--I just hate the limitations of bureaucracy even when it crops up in my firm. My first hand interation with full time government was in the Texas Army National Guard and the Army Reserve. Some of the full timers were astonishingly lazy, arrogant, and incompetent. Others were workhorses and gave it all. The later made the system work. The former could not be purged. I don't know how the good guys did it given that everyone got the same pay (adjusted for pay grade etc) In private, at least in small business, the lazy and incompetent don't last too long.

Think I got off topic.
