Best Home Defense Rifle?

They haven't been made for quite awhile...I have a Marlin Camp 9. Pretty sweet rifle and the 9mm out of it is much more powerful than out of a handgun due to the longer barrel.
I also have a Kel-Tec Sub2000 in 9, now that would be a good home defense rifle IMO, especially with the 17 round Glock mags mine takes

Maine is a great state in which to live, and it's very safe. Many live long and happy lives with their doors unlocked and without a CCW. I hope to live here for many years to come (albeit with locked doors and personal protection nearby).
That said, even if there is a statute that provides civil immunity, such a law would not prevent someone from bringing civil action. Now, the case may be dismissed because of such immunity, but before the case got to that point there would still be the issue of $$$$ legal fees to prepare such a defense.
Seems like in every state there are frivolous law suits constantly in the news, simply because someone felt they were wronged by another person, or company. Remember McDonald's losing a lawsuit because their coffee was hot?
Maybe your homeowner's policy would cover those legal costs, but I haven't looked at my policy with that in mind.

IMHO.. they are both the same. Too many non gunners think that guns in the hands of private law abiding citizens will turn the place into the wild west.. when crime statistics OVERWHELMINGLY show that violent crime rates go down when a state has strong carry and self defense laws.. IE.. it makes for a politer society.
I have a friend that lived in a nice town in texas.. town ordinance mandated a gun in every household legally allowed to own one.
Home invasion #'s , per the local head LEO for the 3 years he lived there were 0, 0, 0. No criminals were foolish enough to enter a home they know had an armed citizen..
IMHO.. a 'safe' place to live is one in which you are allowed to defend yourself.
When the going gets bad.. I don't want to depend on a 911 call and wait for the cops to show up to defend me and protect my familly from being killed... I want strong victom and self defense laws so that I can not worry about legally protecting my family.
I know that's probably a hard idea to cope with. beings that you live in an area where your people have essentially given up and let their gov't take most of your guns and gun rights away... so I understand where your comments are coming from. I hear that same sentiment alot from people that are subjects of states that actively disarm their people...

I believe it may even be a pre-emption in the law... I'm not a lawyer so won't debate the point.. but if there is someone here that can give an authoratative description of how the law works for one of these pro-self defense states, like florida.. 'd welcome it.
In any case.. i don't sit up at night wringing my hands about what will happen if I shoot the intruder trying to kill me... I worry first about my familly... and the idea behind the self defense laws are that the crinimal should be wringing their hands and sweating every time they attack an innocent citizen, wondering if they are exercising their rights...
IMHO.. if every law abiding citizen that was capable and responsible enough to carry, were allowed to.. I'm betting the criminal population would tend to decline...

No argument from here. I fully agree and will take exactly the same position. My wife and I have both talked about and planned what we would do if faced with such a situation - and we sleep very well knowing that the odds are clearly in our favor.
Not to start lawyer bashing, but I think it would be a step in the right direction if we had more good family practice physicians and fewer ambulance chasing attorneys.

I know it doesn't directly affect home defense, but if our incoming president gets one of his listed wishes, to eliminate concealed carry permits nationwide, I'm afraid crime will go up rather than down. That's besides the point that it's my estimation that such a ban would make "criminals" of a lot of law abiding citizens who'd opt to not obey that law. It would keep both physicians and attorneys alike busy though.

That would be odd, as probably the least likely person to commit a crime of any sort is the person with the concealed carry permit. After going thru and clearing FBI back ground checks along with state and local records, carrying a legally bought fire arm that he knows can be traced back to him thru ballistic "fingerprints". Is this person gonna do a drive-by? or any crime for that matter that could jeopardise this special privilege to carry a concealed firearm out in the general public?
Owning a gun for home defence should always be a right, but being allowed to carry in public is truly a privilege that IMO would keep people striving to meet that higher standard.

Exactly- the person with the CWP is not someone you have to worry about, statistically speaking. Some sources have even claimed the crime rate among CWP holders is less than among the police in many areas
