Electric PTO engagement has me a little concerned, but. . . we'll see.

Does anybody knows along with the CVT is there any other gearing is used to archive ranges (low, med, high) so creep, low gear/high torque could be achieved. A robust CVT may be the right medicine for guys like me on the fence that is pulled between Synchronized gears and HST.

One of our service guys have seen the tear down. Its a chain, not a belt. It runs in an oil bath. The whole unit is a little larger than an HST. Apparently their reliability testing is comming back really good.

Thanks Neil,

I would love to see a picture if the transmission innards if you ever get to do one. I sure like to see the pulley or cone system and the mechanism in which pulley dia is changed. How about range shifter? Is it all CVT or a cross bred between gear/CVt?

I've not had any experience with CVT's in auto's but I do understand that a CVT has around 40% fewer moving parts than an automatic. Perhaps someone on here can give us a mechanical breakdown of the system and how it works.

Design is very simple and there are many links out there for it. Just google it. for low torque stuff is pretty good, the key is how it is designed for the heavy work. You basically got two pullies that you can vary the pitch angle and dia as needed, the belt stays the same diameter and rides up and down to give the speed or torque necessary. The way belt or flat chain engages the pulley is interesting to see. I need picture people, hopefully NH site will have soon parts breakdown on their website.

If you can't find any info on the 8N CVT, just google Fendt Vario, and tons of info will come up. It was Pioneered by Fendt. :)

I just saw a post about the Boomer 8N in the Vintage Tractor forum and it got me to thinking about this. . . hmmm. Now, everytiime somebody searches for "8N" with a search engine like Google, they are gonna get all the hits for Boomer 8N. Do you suppose CNH planned it that way?;)

Saw the inners of a Justy once, and it's just as described. Fat metal belt, looks like a huge GM smallblock camchain, a varible cone, and the other pully. The justy used this arrangement so that full throttle could be used at takeoff to launch the Justy from a stop, maximum hp, and torque to get the Justy going. It only had a very small 3 cylinder engine. Then at highway speed, the cone adjusted to deliver high mileage. Would love to see NH Boomer 8N pics of inners, and will be interesting to see how well it performs......;)
