I grew up around the farm and I have driven several different brands over the years and have found that most have good qualities about them. I personally like Deere the best out of what I have driven not to say that Kubota, NH, Case IH, etc. are bad. When I bought my 755 I was almost convinced to buy a Kabota instead, I drove it, I liked it, and it was cheaper. The dealer did everything to switch me over. My wife told me when we got home she did not think I would be happy with it for a long time like I would a Deere and I believe that she was right. So I bought the Deere and have never regretted it. The other problem I had with the kabota was the dealer was a lot farther away and not as many of them as there are John Deere dealers in my area. Infact there are more JD dealers in my area then any other brand. It is also handy to be able to go to one dealer and buy all my parts as I have about all John Deere.

When I was VERY young my dad gave me a JD set of from the state fair that his brother gave him, so when I carpet farmed , it was always green, but grew to have other colors of tractors and equipment. Now many years later... I lean towards JD due to the on-line parts catalog, the higher re-sale value (not that I sell any), and the dealer support we have in the area. I also like that most JD tractors/combine/Z-mowers/etc all have color coded and shaped control handles.

When we bought our stable, everywhere we looked we saw Kubotas, and everybody told us Kubotas were the most reliable. So we went to the Kubota dealer, knowing basically nothing, and based on answering a few questions were sold a B2710. It was fine for a while, but eventually we moved to a larger arena drag that the drag salesman said our 2710 could handle. It's within the HP specs on their web site, too. But that Kubota has spent at least a month in the shop getting various drivetrain problems fixed. Were we working it too hard? Quite possibly. Are my operators well-trained and experienced? Not really, but we do the best we can. Was the Kubota dealer accomodating? Hardly. In some cases repairs weren't completed, in some cases they missed other related issues, and in all cases they charged a small fortune.

So, when I'd had enough and decided to buy a bigger tractor (we'd already spent enough on repairs to the Kubota to pay for one), Kubota was certainly not my first thought. The NH dealer is the Kubota dealer, so that was out. We have two relatively nearby JD dealers, though, and JD has a very good rep. The small, single-location dealer made me a better deal than the larger, multi-location one, so that's who got my business, and so far I've been very happy with my 4320. That being said, I haven't used the dealer for service yet, as we've only had it a couple of months.

John Deere has a mystique, no doubt about it. But brand loyalty is iffy. The JD of today is not the JD of yesterday. Nor is the Red or Orange. I was raised Red and just purchased a 68 year old H for a second (working) tractor. Fixing up old tractors is in vogue, but as I saw in a thread I can't now locate, this will end someday because tractors built now will not reach an age of nostalgic attraction.

I previously owned a 3010 JD that was a great tractor. Too big for my needs so I sold it. It was a 1963 model that my father bought 25 years previous and had been shedded and cared for. Virtually no grease accumulation on the engine or anywhere else. Many of the older Greens are still around, so the love affairs die hard.

In this part of the country, 35(+) years ago it was mainly Red and Green, otherwise MF, Case and Oliver. Tractor pulls became the Gladiators Arenas where brand superiority reigned only until the next pull.

Will these tractors built now last long enough to have similar sentimental value? Probably not. Well maybe my H will still be working at 100 years of age.

I don't have any qualms at all about my tractor being around in 25 or 30 years. I see no reason why it shouldn't still be running and working around the farm.

It was a simple for me. I have one of the biggest kubota dealers around within 5 miles of my house. The place was great, people treated me good there. Test drove some. Didnt like the loader control on the mast nor the rocker for the hydro pedals. Headed over to JD and liked the location of the loader control and also the hydro pedals. Also liked the standard quick attach bucket. JD dealer was basically no haggle and I was treated well here also. Made the deal and never looked back. In my limited experience so far with the tractor (2 yrs), I have had no issues and it will do everything that i was told. Took it back once for some nit picky stuff and they fixed it the next day even tho they were busy (it was in the spring so they were covered up working on AG tractors, there are alot of em here in IN). My next tractor will be a JD regardless of how they stack up number wise with the competition. I dont put much stock in mfg numbers anyways. Only way to know what they are gonna do is to test drive em.

I grew up working on farms in upstate NY, so my earliest operating experiences as a kid were with Massey Ferguson, Allis-Chalmers, Ford, and John Deere. Some of these were gas burners, but the the John Deere was the diesel beast that left me with awe.

Over the years I have bought equipment from Kubota (TLB), Bobcat (skidsteer), Takeuchi (track loaders), and Deere (both compact and ag.). I was deeply impressed with the design and build quality of the Kubota. Takeuchi uses a Yanmar powerplant--smooth, quiet, powerful.

Since I am now just doing weekend and summer home projects, I have only one tractor--a JD with a Japanese Yanmar engine in it. A John Deere ag. tractor I bought in 2001 did not have the Yanmar engine, but rather a three-cylinder engine built in the U.S. It shook the whole tractor like a dog trying to pass razer blades. The three cylinder Yanmar is smooth, quiet, and bulletproof. For me it is a toss-up between JD (compacts) and Kubota. I can go with either one and be very pleased.

Can't say the dealer I bought my JD 110 TLB from was the reason. All the 'salesman' did was basically take my info and call to try and locate one because he had no stock of them. And, pretty thin on everything else. He located some units several states away and when I expressed amazement that one could not be found at least in Texas he didn't offer much of a response.

I called around a few dealers in Texas and found my TLB. Called back to the local salesman and advised him who to contact about getting it. When it came in about all he did was write up the paperwork and have it delivered to my farm. He never set foot on my place.

Good thing I pretty much knew what I wanted from prior research and 'shopping'. BTW, I only approached this salesman at the time of this purchase. It's not like I had been bugging him for a year with inquiries and tire kicking.

I'm sold on JD but NOT this salesman (should call him a 'clerk'). The jury is still out on the particular dealer. We'll see how that works out in the longer run.

I would have bought this TLB from another dealer, the one I found it at, if it had not been for the JD scheme to push customers to 'local' dealers. I don't really have a big problem with that and can see the benefit of it but in this case I think it left a bad impression with me. But that, again, was maybe more the salesman.

I was inclined to go with JD in the beginning because of reputation and heritage and the feeling that they are an American Company. The 110TLB is the right tool for the current job and I'm happy with it so far. I'll most likely stay with JD on whatever else I buy. But maybe not the same dealer and very very unlikely the salesman.

One last thing. I like some branding of accessories but maybe JD has carried it too far with some of their 'accessories'. I don't really see why anyone would want to have a house completely furnished with everything carrying a JD logo. That made me wonder if they were just cashing in on the name for all it's worth before cashing out on the customers. I hope not because I really like my TLB.

Hey, it works for Harley-Davidson. Why not John Deere? (I'm sure that's their thinking).
