I believe that the more children you have, the higher your school taxes should be. You get the first child free, i.e we all pay the school tax for your child, after that, you pay full whack.

This will do two things . . less environmental pollution, lower taxes for the rest of us.

Do you have any idea how much tax money children generate?

I can tell you for certain that the NC lottery has effected me.

Now I can go into a gas station/convienence store and have ONE guy in front of me at the counter take up 10 minutes playing $1 games.

I play the lottery every time I enter a convienence store.
The bet is will I get throught the check out with out standing in line forever behind a lottery ticket purchasher ?

Here in Vermont I paid $1800 back in 1995 for a brand new 3200 sq ft home on 3.5 acres, total cost around $365k. No improvements since. Our house is now listed as $800k and our taxes are around.... $14k!!! We live in a "Gold" town. Our school is having trouble making ends meet. It looks like they will have to cut both French and Chineese languages. Our shcools are falling down and require parents to donate time to paint etc. as $$ millions of $ leave our town to help the state school system. Other towns have recently spent millions building athletic fields etc. If they don't spend it they loose it. Fun and games with the bozos in charge of Vermont.

Approaching 10 grand here with well and septic, living on a dirt road that I could maintain better with a plastic shovel and pail than the town can with their trucks. Volunteer fire department, 3 town cops, Oh yeah, we have to buy town bags to throw our trash away too. I built the house myself. Its appraised at way more than what I built it for. Im not gonna sell it so I shouldnt be paying taxes on some fictitious number.

About the only thing parents can do is sweep the grounds...

Painting, any sort of repair, landscaping are all off limits due to Liability issues...

At the local Junior High, one of the parents was so fed up with the the leaking Auditorium Roof he and a number of Dad's re-roofed over the weekend... The district was furious, threatened to sue each parent and media had a field day...

The end result, the roof is still there 6 years later and the principal thanked everyone involved, off the record of course.

Less than they cost me.

Parents should become financially responsible and not sponge so much off others. Its the fair thing to do.

Here in central NC I pay about 1150 for 12 acres. About $300 for my vehicles in property tax and about 75 for plates on the truck and 30 for the suburban. Assessed value 127,000

Whether you like it or not, we all sponge of each other in some way. Social Security, Income taxes, unemployment, etc. If you have a job your employer pays part of your unemployment insurance. Does that make you a sponge if you need to collect on it? Where do you want to draw the line? Don't forget my children will be paying for your Social Security some day.

Speaking of SSI, I did some calculations a few years ago regarding how much I've contributed to that fraud system. I started contributing at age 14 and did so until age 62. If you took the $ I contributed plus my employers contribution and calculated a gain of 5% each year I'd have a retirement pile of over $500,000.

Based on what the wife and I collect, we could draw on that account for the next 25 years and still have a bit left over.

If the government had been a good steward of my money as promised my Roosevelt we'd have no SSI issues. If I'm not mistaken we were promised a seperate account to be used for nothing but SSI, and all was well until the Carter Admin.

I do have 5 kids, but the oldest is at VMI and is costing me dearly without being in our local school system. My other 4 are in our public school system. Still, I feel I'm paying my fair share of property taxes. I know some here pay considerably more than I do, but for Indiana supposedly having relatively low taxes, I'm not happy paying over 10k a year.

I live in a very rural, very poor area. I have some exemptions b/c my wife and I have a horse boarding business. I pay $280 for 27 acres with 2 barns and a 3 bed 2 bath brick home w/ about 1450 sq ft. I pay about $50 for a second property we bought next to us. It is 14 or so acres and has a 900 square foot cottage I built for my mother in law. I used to pay less, about $200/year but my taxes went up this year. Being a volunteer fireman, I am not complaining b/c a big chunk of those taxes are going towards new trucks and equipment for us.

Good Mornin Guys,
Taxes are allways a sore subject with me ! ;)

My Ct home is a three bedroom saltbox colonial on 1 acre and my taxes are $7000 per year. That can be paid in two installments, Jan and July. Im a volunteer fireman in town and can receive a $1000 reduction on those taxes if I meet the points criteria to get the benefit, by attending the drills, meetings and fire calls through the year. I have been meeting the criteria for the past few years.

My Vt home is on 10 acres and actually quite small, about 900 sq ft. That bill is $2160 that can be paid in four installments. Sept 10th, Nov 10th, Mar 10th, May 10th, $540 each installment.

As others have said, whether your paying a seperate school tax bill or its included in your regular tax bill, the majority of the money goes to the schools !

The Ct taxes are getting a bit much to swallow, but as long as my wife is working, making an excellent income, we can afford to stay in this home !

Now it's more like iffy stores.
Ya wonder if you will ever get out of there when you get behind a lottery junkie.

Interesting as a friend of mine went out and bought paint with his own money and proceeded to paint the outdoor benches, picnic tables and bleachers. I'm sure those in charge knew his plans.... Luckily our little town is not over lawyered yet...

In reality, I think it was the School District Union Workers that objected

In 98 I lived on 3/4 acre lot, 1100 sq ft house I paid 1100. a year, the Mohegan indians made it big in town..lots of promises they'll help pay for schools, roads, etc...the casino went up and two years later my taxes doubled. Taxes then went up several hundred each year until I moved.

Now 30 miles away..more rural area..first year I paid 1200. for 6.79 acres 1500 sq ft house, large work shop, barn, pool, sheds.. the next year it doubled, last year well over 3000. even though the property value dropped 30K....it dropped another 20K since then.. can't wait to see what happens this year I mean my taxes must be lower ..right?
