FFK, glad to see someone buy one of these so we can get some feedback. These look very attractive for the price. Unfortunately for me, i now make my wood 20 - 22 inches as my stove takes 24" wood. I think I'll end up with the Speeco from TSC, but that looks like a nice splitter.:)

Hey Ductape Have you looked at the Ramsplitter? Good looking units.

They make a larger unit and I thoght thier price was significantly less than the speedco.

That's a nice looking splitter. I'm too cheap so made my own and just plug it into the bucket roll quick disconnects on the FEL. I like that cradle design, think I will add that to mine, having to pick up all the pieces that fall off the side gets old after a while. Mine will split up to 24", mostly because that was the first right diameter cylinder that came on sale at Princess Auto. My stove likes 16-17" long wood so a shorter cylinder would have been just as good but don't mind having the extra length, never know what the future might bring.
In the photo I just have it C clamped to my carryall. I'm modifying the carryall to make it a bit bigger and also adding a proper mount for the splitter.

Good looking unit. A BIT high to be lifting those large logs.

What RPM do you run the tractor at? what diameter is the cylinder? what is the cycle time? Just curious...

What position do you have the bucket roll joy stick in to use the log splitter?
I almost was going to do that idea but thought I'd have to use the bucket raise/lower and place the stick in the "float" position...

I bought a used Split-fire that will run off the 3 point hitch on my tractor. I haven't hooked it it up yet but hope to soon have the time to get at it. The Split-fire will also split in both directions and comes with a 24" stroke, with other longer lengths optional. Split-Fire Sales Inc. :: Welcome :: Quality Built. High Performance. Split-Fire - Your Best Choice

I looked them but VERY pricey new, Also its 72" hanging off the back, Thats alot of I beam you need to worry about sticking out there when turning.

I do like the contol valve location on the split fire. I might relocate mine so it doesn't get jammed / smash if I accidently back into something..

Although a longer cutting stoke would be nice sometimes, My firebox can only handle 18" logs. This way if it doesn't fit on the cutting table it won't make it into the house. I hate grabbing a piece of wood and finding out its a bit to long after I have it 1/2 in the fire:D

Thought about getting a standalone gas splitter but for now, here's my splitter

Fiskars - Super Splitting Axe-28 inch - 7854

Here's my woodpile I'm gonna split with it

If you're splitting all that by hand, you're a better man than I.:)

I thought as a firefighter you would like the hot sticks!!!

I didn't say i couldn't handle them, It's just a half lit log in the house....makes a smokey mess and all...

Peter, Thats quite the pile of lumber. Hope you got a bottle of Ibuprofen for your back when you are done....Good Luck

I see you have a brush hog. For a man of your "toughness" why not get rid of the brush hog and use a sickle. That would be up your alley after spiltting all that wood:D

Wow, I think they make a tool that can be used to shorten those logs so that they are easier to split, although I've never seen a 3pt chain or cordwood saw ;-).
