Thought about getting a standalone gas splitter but for now, here's my splitter...
Until last year, it was a maul and wedges for me...gettin' old, just don't have what it takes anymore.

Fiskars - Super Splitting Axe-28 inch - 7854
Peterc38,
Great looking best friend. Is it a Weimeriemer?
Peter, how do you like that Fiskars axe? I have one of their small hatchets, a machete like tool and as well as loppers and they are all superb tools. I have regular 6 and 8 lb mauls that I split all my wood with now.
Nice to see your big DaneBoth my Danes died in 2008
. Molly died of DCM at 8.5 years and Delmar had a heart attack while bird hunting. He was only 6.5 years. Worst year of my life...losing both my big dogs.
I am going to buy the Northern Tools 3 pt splitter or the Split-Fire come spring.
I'm running the Speeco and really like it. I do some large oak logs and the vertical option makes life a lot easier. Plus my Fire box takes up to 27" logs and it only splits 26"
Northland,
I'm 48 and the only thing that bothers me is just the bending over and picking up of the round I am going to split.
