hahaha, in my google search, on the 2nd page, your thread actually shows up!:D shows how rare they must be....

if it wasn't too tight, cut off a crescent wrench and weld an old socket on the stub of the handle......i know someone said it's tight....

In one of the engine oil seal pictures it looks like one of the freeze plugs is dented up a little and the other is rusted. You might take a close look at these while they are open. It may just be how they show up in the picture.

a few of you guys made some good suggestions regarding a substitue for the tool Joe needs, but I'm not so sure if they would work in this situation. The input shaft hub only has two flats to grab with minimal contact area. I'd be concerned about the tool slipping and with the amount of force it took to loosen, he might end up worse off.

In a pinch...I'd do as some of you have suggested, even the hammer and punch method. In fact U could possibly even use vise grips on the tube and then file the burrs clean if there were any. But to put it back on and torque to specs might be a problem IMO.

Considering all the work involved, I'd just get the correct size tool and a beefy one at that!!...and play it safe, which is what I did. I'm pretty sure the size was 1 9/16" but I could be wrong. It was around 4 or 5 yrs ago when I did mine and considering I'm lucky if I can remember what I did 5 days ago:p, I'd use a vernier caliper and measure it to be positive.

Keep us posted on your progress Joe and ask here or drop me an email if U need anything else.

Why not take a pipe with the right diameter, weld in a couple tabs for the flat spots. Weld in a 1/2 socket adapter
in the other end. That would handle it with no problem and you would be set up to torque it back in.

Hey Gentlemen,

I have been on "pause" for a little bit. We had one heck of a windstorm around here and the power was out for a while....so I was on generator duty. Also, throw in work, and family/wife!

So just a quick "outline" of progress,

-Got the Messicks order today! Waiting on the gracious gift from TCBoomer.

-Bought a set of new wrenches, 1"-2" and sacrificed the 1-5/8" to make my own crows foot. I got the sleeve off. Yep, the seal was leaking! Now, how to get it out of there? I'm thinking I may go ahead and remove the step(s) and steering column and separate the intermediate housing from the actual transmission? That would give me exclusive access to the area where the seal is.

-Looked at the freeze plugs as DanD78 mentioned and I'll also address those later, no problems noted.....just need some touch-up.

I'll get some pics and more details soon!

Great progress so far:) Can you not puncture the rubber seal with a flat head screw driver so you can pry it out. Usually seals get destroyed getting them out. Driving the new seal is important as it is a one shot deal and there is no second chance for re-installation of the same seal.
