Rob,
Ponds should be water tight, you are right. But I had over 3 feet of water seep in while we were not getting rain. We were in a dry spell, before the rains last night, with the fire ban in effect still I think. So my pond is filling without rain while in a dry spell. That makes me feel real good that I have a spring feeding it. The rye grass was only planted because the soil is too cold to plant bermuda. Bermuda grass seed will be planted in March. I-45 and Cypresswood? Where exatly?I went to Klein
all my school days. Mom and Dad had property on Cypress Creek.
I used to catch catfish in our driveway!

Without telling the world......couple miles west on cypresswood. One kid at Collins for one more year, other at TAMU. We moved up from Spring Branch in 2003.
I think that Bermuda likes much warmer weather. It's the nights that hold it back when they are cool. I learned that the hard way to. But a little seed goes a long way. Most places say late spring, early summer. And it needs water to get it started good. Some years up at Elkhart my bermuda has died(or near dead brown) and come back 3 times (no re-seading). But up there they call my place a rock, mostly clay/iron ore and a little sand. I put in a sprinkler system for the flower beds and they keep the grass green around the house.
Keep the pics comming!
Dirt,
Yes, I agree. You need to feed them regularly to get them growing. I plan on the smallest fingerlings I can buy. Cleaning is nothing. I just don't like the cleanup after cooking.
I know I will enjoy them if I eat them or not.
hugs, Brandi
The water level is slowly creeping up to the 12 inch mark. 12 inches on the yard stick will put the deep end in over 4 feet of water. All this water with a dry spell going on. We have had just enough rain to get the rye grass growing good. The 1st photo was taken on the 5th of Feb. The 2nd photo was taken on the 8th, the 3rd photo on the 9th and the 4th photo was taken just this morning. The last photo was taken this morning also and the left end of the island is over 4 feet deep.
The water has came up so fast, I plan on meeting the fish hatchery truck tomorrow in Conroe and buying 25 channel cats. Either 4-6 inch or 6-8 inch. I would think the 4-6 inch would stand a better chance since the pond is only 4 feet deep right now. I will buy some catfish food when I pick up the cats. Am I forgetting anything, or jumping the gun on stocking a few fingerlings?

John_bud,Aluminum foil wrapping the fish, cooked on an outdoor stove, served on paper plates and beer cold in the can.
Problem solved. We'll be over around 6...

Brandi, we started with 4-6 inch Channels the Spring of 07. This past Summer, our grandkids were pulling out 18 - 20 inch cats. Now, unfortunately, because of the drought we will probably lose them, Water level is down to less than 3 feet.
You will have fun.
By the way, we only fed them floating fish food once a day, just before sunset. Have fun!
