Equipment trailer, 16' vs 18' dilemma

I'll try to get some better pics taken and posted. We had lost alot of our snow and then this AM, we got about 12" of light powder. Driving was terrible most of the day.

Glad you found you a trailer also.

So this thread not only helped JB but sounds like it helped you too.

That sure looks like a lot of snow, we was supposed to get 6 to 8 inch.
but only got 1/2in. I'm ready for spring!!

*I really didn't know it was hard to get trailers in your area, it would probably be a good opportunity for a person to go into the business, if he could get them delivered in the area.

Schvl73,
Glad to hear you got off the fence and bought a trailer. Kinda like me, after starting this thread I figured I shamed myself into action.
Good luck, JB.
I'm glad you got the ball rolling, I've been thinking about it for awhile and just didn't get it done. When I think of the damage to the roof and rack on my explorer (prior to the pickup purchase), the borrowing and favors, the cost to repay favors....
Your thread was the kick in the backside I needed!:)

Trailers aren't hard to come by in New England, just expensive! I've seen plenty of used for $2000 - $2500 and you can buy new for less in the midwest. I was seriously considering though. I thought of buying 3, keeping 1. In the end, after a sales meeting in VA and the long ride to and from, I decided a futher drive to buy a trailer was something I wouldn't have the time to do.

Stupid ground hog brought us more winter, we had snow on the ground all winter since early December, it was slowly melting and we were able to start thinking about doing things outdoors besides snow removal, Then bam! another storm.

I bought the trailer during the lull, most places only had snow where it was piled, now I can't even try loading tractors on trailer, will have to wait a little longer.

I hooked up my 3pt trailer hitch to it and makes it easy to maneuver around the yard and dock it in a out of the way parking spot.

Next posts will be about the best ways to tie down equipment on trailers, anyone have some good pictures of how they do theirs?

Thanks, JB.

This has worked really well for me. I have a variety of places to tie down and since I also use the trailer to transport stone/mulch, I used my router to make 'pockets' so they stow flush with the deck.

Each of the tie-downs is bolted to the underlying cross-beam with Grade 8 bolts/washers. Each hook is rated for 12,000 lbs, so I'm sure the cross-beam would break before the eye does. I tie my tractor down with chains and either over-center or ratchet thingys...I have two of each. I've gotten the tie-downs quite tight with NO, ZERO, NADA, NUNCA movement in the tie-downs themselves. And they're large enough to pass the chain hook through, so tying down to them is a breeze.

In total, I have 12 on my trailer, 4 up front and 2 in the back on each side. I haven't wanted for more.

The only downside is that after transporting stone, I need to take a screwdriver and clean out the holes. Not a biggie, though...a beer or two's worth of effort on a lazy saturday.

JB,

That looks like some bad weather, we was supposed to get 6 to 8 in. but only got 1/2in. but i was happy with that.

It's supposed to get 70 here tomorrow and i was going to change my wheels around, in the next couple days i will load my tractor on my trailer and let you see that. I may need that picture for something else anyway.

That is a nice job you done.

Thanks

shvl73, I would like to see some pics of that without the snow. Thats an interesting trailer as its deck over but appears to be built more like a drop deck. Am I seeing it right?
I took a couple of pics today. I dragged it out and put the plate on it. Just about ready to hit the road. I changed the 6 wire plug out for the RV style to match the truck.
