I am sure many of you have seen the posts I have made expressing my displeasure with people allowing their children or grandchildren in the bucket of a tractor, I think many people feel that i am against children ever being around a tractor, I AM NOT! My 17 yoa son operates my L4200 the same way I operated an 8N Ford from age 12, I have also let my daughter who is 6 sit on my L4200 and have rode her down the driveway with me holding on to her.

My whole point in my post was that if a kid falls out of the bucket of a moving tractor they will most likely be run over, this is simple logic!

Maybe I am a little **** retentive with safety but I have unfortunatly seen the results of not using good safety practices in my job, I have seen children and adults that have been killed due to disregarding safety and sometimes common sense.

Which leads me to one simple question, Do you think it is a SAFE practice to let children ride in the bucket of a tractor?

No. Not only is there the danger of running over them, a sudden hydraulic failure could be catastrophic, too.

Safe is a relative term.

No, it is not meant for passengers, so it's not "safe". That does not mean I would not ever do it.

Is a hay wagon ride "safe"?

Life is full of risks that need to be managed. Being alive is not "safe". You need to decide how safe you want to be?

Duffster,

Where is the "Proper Place" ?

I just want everyone to know that I am not trying to start a pissing battle between members, I am just curious to what people think about this subject.

Riding around the yard or driveway at a few mph with a capable operator in the seat and kids old enough to know to hold on.

I wouldn't run down the road at 20 mph with kids in the bucket.

Not moving OK, moving, no.

A few years back a friend climbed into another friend's front bucket. Both were at least in their 40's. All details I don't remember but about 20 years latter and law suit the one who fell out the bucket still has damaged ankles and problems walking. All the operator did was raise the bucket and the other one got nervous and I think jumped. Don't know the height.

Several years ago a neighbour was giving his 3 young children a ride in the bucket of his skidsteer. He hit a bump. The 2 year old son was flung up and came down on the edge of the bucket with his head. Died instantly. I am sure that the father had considered it safe and great fun for his kids.
