Fill the washer fluid and try it again. If there is a check engine light, then the code will be displayed.

Where are you located? I do my own work so no dealers for my trucks but I have never heard of a dealer turning away a customer with work...

Filled it, reads out no codes. A friend is supposedly coming in town who claims there is a "trick" to it but couldn't explain it so hopefully he'll be here this afternoon and it'll pop off some codes.

I wonder if we are on the same page here, by "codes" I mean something like P0441 and this alpha-numeric code will be displayed in the digital odometer where it tells you the mileage. You say it "reads out" Low Washer Fluid but that is just a light that comes on and not an OBDII code that would be displayed in the odometer.

Those were the codes I was thinking of - I wasn't in the drivers seat when the test was done only taking notes and that's what he told me "lower washer fluid" I didn't even question if it was just a light or written out figured he and I were on the same page.

But yesterday redid it again and nothing came out.

OK - so many are saying why we haven't gotten it into a shop yet - well it's a holiday weekend and none will be open till tuesday to find someone to look at it again going to go and find some other dodge diesel owners randomly and ask them where they take their truck.

BUT besides the point:

After some more fussing yesterday and having a friend come down to look at it who used to own Dodge and they did some more testing and things and turns out there best judgement is that there is power up till the computer, but nothing gets further past it. But yet, the computer is not spitting any codes to us.

So the Check Engine light is not on anymore...?

Oh no it's still on, and the truck is still not firing. I meant that the computer isn't sending any communication.

The check engine light was on also just before i had a Ford Taurus computer recently replaced. New was $400 - used from a wrecker was $200 - installed by dealer and reprogrammed there (cause you need the computer programmer to do it due to the factory security system on them) Don't know if Dodge trucks have that though. This is like GM's passkey system where the fuel pump will not activate. Ford has one called PATS. I would imagine they have something like this on Chrysler too.

Steve

Doing a quick search on Google found this also... someone else here mentioned the lift pump also.

So when you do the key trick to get the codes, it just shows lines like this ----- in the odometer? If so then there are no codes stored in the ECU or TCU and if there are no codes but the check engine light is on then I would point towards the ECU being the problem. If it was the TCU, you could still start it.

Only the mileage numbers stayed up nothing was written out.

Then it probably wasn't done right, make sure all the doors are closed, all the lights are off and cycle the ignition quickly ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON, no pausing. When done correctly the odometer will read either a code or ----. That code could answer all your questions.

EDIT: I made a video doing the "Key Trick" on my 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 HEMI. There is no Check Engine light but you can see what happens when there are no codes, it says "donE" and then follows with ------ showing no codes stored.
