Confused About HST Fan Protection

/ Confused About HST Fan Protection #42
Thanks for the input on the overheating issue. I know there is no way to know the exact HST temp, I was just looking for a seat of the pants/educated guess type of thing. I guess if it can run without a fan, the skid plate probably doesn't hurt.
Matt.

I'm still a little concerned about this. When I mow with the bush hog, grass piles up on top of the drawbar. With the Bro-Tek on, it gets trapped there and really packs in against the transmission. This seems like it would provide good insulation preventing much heat from radiating.

On the other hand, I think the skid plate makes contact with the bottom of the transmission. If that's the case, maybe it helps to conduct some heat away from it.

I went to my dealer with pictures from this thread of both the old and the newer Kubota Guards. We were only able to find a part call out for the older -smaller guard and not the larger new guard. When somebody can get a part number, please post it.

Just a bump. I would be intrested in getting the New Kubota guard that the OP posted. This is quite compact and modifyable. Good ventilation. Easy shaft hook-up. Could be easly modified in the front for additional protection.
Is anybudy else intrested? Any luck getting a part number? Let me know and I will get the guard and modify than provide pix.

I looked at a new BX2360 or 2660 on the lot yesterday, and it didn't have a guard of any kind on it. I'm not sure how long it had been sitting on the lot though.

Would be nice if the OP would ask his dealer where the guard came from. I would bet that the dealer put it on himself but who knows until we find out the true story.

I personally still contend that this is a mid-build change. Auto makers do this kind of stuff all the time.

Kubota is not the fastest outfit in updating things electronic, as in manuals, pdf files, lists, website, etc. Not a super criticism, just an observation.

OK, here a photo of my underneath 'Bota.

Sorry the photo is what it is, but you can see the part anyhow.

Guess what fellows, just got my new 2009 BX 2660 today and it has the same HST guard as pictured by bp fick. I'm relatively sure the dealer didn't put it on, because we never talked about it.

Looks like they are putting these on the new machines.

I bought my BX2660 in July and it came equipped with the latest version of the hst fan protector. I use it in the woods regularly and have not had any trouble, though I do check it regularly. Believe me, it is not a dealer add on...this is definitely a factory upgrade. I have tried to find a part number to pass along, but no luck. I do think whatever you fabricate to protect the fan should have good air flow. Over time, heat will break down hydraulic fluid and effect the performance of the entire hydraulic system. Some of the skid plates pictured in previous posts look like trouble to me, completely blocking air flow and holding heat in rather than dispersing it. That could be easily remedied by cutting thin slots or drilling small holes in the plate to improve air flow.
