Ever use your tractor for revenge?

I don't care much for how many of the HOA become a cliquey political group of folks that want to impose their will. But in Theory the origin was probably a good one. I believe most were organized to protect the property values in PUD's and other medium density areas by making sure that covenants were enforced folks cut their grass, kept their houses painted and didn't start collecting half disassembled 47 Chevy's in the front lawn. So I can see the purpose if the purpose stays true.

I can't argue with that. Of course, in theory Communism, Fascism, and Naziism are all good ideas too. In fact, historically, totalitarian dictatorships have been the most successful forms of government.

I'm the chairman of our small town planning and zoning commission. I can see the allure of a HOA to both resident and city official alike, but I compare it to the allure of just wetting your pants. It's the easiest thing to do at the time, but eventually it's going to be irritating and just plain stink. Best to put forth some effort and take care of it the right way... Robust ordinances from elected city officials with the input of the community.

All of the stories I've heard about HOAs have been cautionary tales rather than success stories. I will oppose them in my community to whatever extent I can.

Now that I've beaten the dead HOA horse, let's get back to revenge. I saw this last night on youtube when I was browsing for fun...

YouTube - boss complains

I have a feeling the sweet taste of revenge was very short lived, but it sure makes for some good viewing.

GASGAS makes a nice trials bike. They are the tractors of the bike world! HOA's are a pain. I'm the president of ours because ....tada...I have a tractor! Since I like to do all sorts of free stuff, people made me president. Most people are nice but wait for someone else (me) to get stuff done. It used to be free, but that was when I figured others would help....fat chance.

Not quite, there are actually several trials riders on this board.

Visiting my BIL and parked across the street is a Zundapp, now that is something I don't see every day.

When we were looking at houses, and came across one's with HOA or covenants and restrictions etc. I just kept going, did not need to buy into that hassle.

I don't really have a HOA, but a road maintenance association. We pay in to it each year and it pays for blacktop patches, snow removal, and the occasional sanding.

But I don't oppose our covenants- We are on 10 acre lots close to town. I don't want a junkyard going in next door, and I'd prefer a swine lot or chicken farm not go in either. The covenants prevent that and don't do much else.

Of course I'd have to actually do the suing if I wanted the covenants enforced, since there is no HOA to start that trouble. But that seams like a reasonable deterrent to me. Someone with a wild hair can't take the HOA money and start a fight- they have to put their own bucks in to it.

Covenants seem like a good compromise to me.

What kind of recourse does your road maintenance association have if your neighboor doesn't pay his share of the costs?
