Okay, I'll be the gumball that says my 2-cents worth is that the penny will work very well.:)

...and speaking of pennies. My wife just collected and rolled all my pennies after looking for any rare ones. She went to the bank yesterday and brought me home $48. She's a keeper!:D

It think somebody has already removed some material from the connector - its pretty thin as it is. But the penny trick might be worth a try for the short term.

I've sent many people 'driving' home after finding them broke down in parking lots with severly worn battery clamps that couldn't quite make enough connection.. only cost a penny each!

it's not a real fix.. but it's a decent bandaid.

old pennies are copper.. new are zinc.. both conduct fine for lead terminals!

Jim gave great advice on the soldering.. only thing I can add is that flux is your friend.. the more the better...

Well I don't think the penny solution will work, because it appears the connector is so thin it is now cracked. Also, there is another, smaller cable coming out that I have to get connected. Here are pics:

it's cracked from overtightening it since it was loose. it needed the penny trick months ago it seems.

Re: REPLACEMENT BATTERY CABLE ENDS
Here ya go: Positive Battery Cable

It lists it for $60.81 which is cheaper than the dealer by around $40 here at least.

It looks like a new cable end is in the works. One site copied from a Ford diesel site.:D

A picture of a slip on for the battery post.:D

The battery clamp assembly is cracked, the slip on battery cap will not do any good.

Yep, that was quite evident in the pictures. :D[ note: source for new cable listed]

Put the slip on cap picture there as someone might be interested!:D

The technician in me says that the cable connection needs to be replaced. The redneck in me says you could save a lot of money and grief by putting a small C-clamp across the outside of the terminal and post and tighten it really good and tight.;):p

I know its to far gone but in the past I got a single terminal and a short wire and used a split bolt connector to join them together and for a worn terminal I took a piece of copper pipe cut 1 in. long and split it on the length type L for a big gap type M for a small gap ,works great.

I still say to suck it up and replace the whole cable...I am sure the other ends (at the other battery and the starter) are deteriorated also...
