why no four post rops on tractors?

ROPS are not designed for deflecting branches like you described. They are there to prevent the tractor from rolling over if it tips on its side. Bending branches with a mid mount ROPS is a good way to get seriously injured or killed, if your hitting braches with any part of your ROPS (mid or rear) then you need to trim your trees.

There are a lot of dozers with forestry packages... certified roll-over rops... I think 3 times? and mesh brush guards fastened to slanted, brush deflecting rops posts...

My Dozer has the standard 2 posts rops and is only rated for one roll over... hope I never need to try it...

I know what your talking about regarding dozers but the tractors that have mid mounted ROPS are not 4 post, they are usually narrow vineyard/fruit tractors and you do not want to be using them to run into tree limbs with. Even the dozers and other equipment with forestry cages are not designed to be used to ram into tree limbs. They are designed to protect the operator "if" you run into a limb.

I'm sorry, I wasn't quite clear. I didn't mean it was for them exactly, but I believe that was why they moved them to the front. And also, I meant to say I wasn't exactly sure about this, but it seems logical to believe that a tractor company thinking of a tractor moving slow speeds through an orchard with your head turned around looking at the attachment, that this would help.

Like I said, I don't know for sure, it just seems like that's what they're trying to do.

The reason they are mounted in the middle is that they fold down completely without interfering with the 3pt or blocking the view behind the tractor. They fold down and around the front of the tractor. The normal rear ROPS folds half way up the ROPS sides leaving them still sticking up and able to catch branches (which is the last thing you want to do in an orchard). To pivot it down lower below the fenders would then put it down in the way of the 3pt, rear implement and your view. The only real logical place to put it is in the middle of the tractor.

A tractor with only mid rops looks like it leaves little protection if the tractor flipped over backwards.

You can't have everything with a fruit and vineyard tractor. These are specialty tractors and are very low to the ground with a very low center of gravity. If you do flip one of these tractors over backwards you definitely had to try hard to do so.

There is still a triangle formed for your head and body as long as your not in soft ground where the rops sinks in too deep.

Nice Pictures!

The pictures are from John Deere and New Hollands websites but you can see how low these tractors can be with the ROPS folding down.

Considering the number of post here and the facts. I would say that ROPS are designed to tear out garage doors.
