2009 Haying in Kubota country

this is the post i have been looking for! Just bought an L 4400 today- anxiously awaiting delevery!
My dad went with me and is now looking at an M7040. He is 80 yrs old and in good shape but still driving a 67 JD 4020. Good old tractor but I think I have him convinced he needs a cab now. My question is, will the 7040 handle round bales of hay with ease and stability? I want him to be safe and the 7040 has considerably less hp than the 4020. The dealer told him that the tractor would handle them with ease, front and rear.

M7040 lifts about 2400#... so its not much of a problem. The next step up, the M8540 does take a larger loader.

The M7040 our neighbor has is a great tractor. He is 89 years old. He traded in a IH 686 for it. He is very pleased with his Kubota. It can handle two 5x6 rolls with no problems at all. After running the IH for all those years it took him some time to get used to the M7040. I spent the better part of an afternoon with him while he was learning the new ways of doing things. He is always talking about how much easier everything is with the Kubota. I love the old iron but it is hard to compare with all the added conveniences a newer tractor provides, simple things like the seats. (lack of back pain) He actually enjoys his tractor time now. He rates his new Kubota a 11. I think the M series would make a believer out of any seasoned farmer.

How does the 9540 handle the 5x6 baler? Normally, I would expect to see a 95 or 100 PTO HP tractor.

Have you ever heard about the house that was so well insulated you could heat it with a candle? Yeah, it's like that. The baler isn't even there.
