tire keeps going flat

/ tire keeps going flat #41
Hey John,

I can hear the air leak at the rim so I know exactly where it is. I can pump it up and hear it pretty easy...and the next day it looks like a "run flat" tire. The reason I said what I did about this tire shop, is because they dismounted and mounted some tires for me...and the machine dug in to the inside of the rim so bad, it chunked out steel where the 4 teeth grabbed the inside diameter of the rim. Then it's the same old argument...."Well...it's just a tractor tire and wheel...you have to expect things like that on a tractor!" and you never win.

I'm gonna try to break the bead tomorrow and look at the tire and rim and then I can tell...hopefully.
Hope you have an air wrench to get the bolts off or a 3' long breaker bar. I couldn't get them off of my BX2350 so I just traded it to the BX2660 :) and it also has one front tire leaking down. I do have an air wrench now so it's just the getting around to it stage. I'm sure UPS can bring you a new mounted tire from Ky if your tire or rim is bad. I bought a new Chevy truck 3 or 4 years ago and it seemed to me to have an unusual vibration. Took it to dealer and the 2 front tires were bad and they replaced them. Any company can spit out a bad part every now and then but the determining factor of future purchases for me is how they resolve the problem. Grudgingly is not a positive selling point for me but I try and learn managements attitude and not the person on the bottom of the pile that gets paid almost nothing. Also, you need to find another tire shop.:) I hate for the white of and egg to run across my plate. I don't care what the yellow does but I want the white done. When I order eggs at a restaurant I embaress my wife because I tell the waiter/waitress to cook it however they have to to get the white done, like 2 or 3 times. When it comes back with the white not done, then I usually ask for a redo. Looks like you may need to tell the tire guys, if you end up going to them, about 3 or 4 times that you don't want your rims scratched, of course that's after asking them can they do the job without scratching the rims. :) Be noticed but not obnoxious. Shame it takes being obnoxious sometimes at some places to be noticed or listened to.:(

I put Green slime in my tires right after I bought the tractor 300+ hours later never had a problem with a low tire.

Slime worked for me also. About a month after I bought the tractor, the left front was always low after one week's time. I couldn't find any cause for the leak so I tried the Slime. It hasn't been low since.

I used Slime in my ATV tires for years, but the problem is you can have a stob, bolt, screw in your tire and not even know it until it has wallowed out and really torn your tire up.

I really don't like visually checking my tires all the time, so when I recently put new Big Horns on my ATV and RUV, I didn't put Slime in. I guess time will tell if that was a good idea or not.

Interesting thread. Both of my fronts on my BX2660 have slow leaks. Apparently its quite common after reading this. Time to go get some slime. What is the recommended tire pressure in the front/backs?

I have to add my name to the list also. My left front has a slow leak on my bx2660 since day one. My brother-in-law has the same tractor and his left front leaks also. Too many coincidences.

Trying to wrap my head around this. Question.

In all or most of your cases, was FEL work involved? Anyone experiencing low air in front tires, but no FEL attached?

Just a working theory inside my own head right now.

From memory per the manual:
Fronts - 25.4psi with FEL installed
Rears - 20psi

For those of you thinking about going with Slime. After you fill them, make sure your future pressure checks are with the valve stem near the 12 o'clock position and that you blow some air back into the valve before you put your gage on them. This will help with not gunking up your gage with Slime. If you don't do this, some Slime will shoot back out when you put your gage to the valve.

Before I slimed mine, my left front would go down even with no FEL work (FEL not installed) involved. I think I know what you are getting at with the FEL involved, heavy FEL load in a turn will cause the sidewalls to collapse some and could cause the bead to leak?

Yeah, something like that. More a bead roll over stress kinda thing. We see this on other equipment. Remember, just a working theory, but if it is happening on machines with no FEL, than .... aw, heck.
