Put some PB Blaster on it for an hour or so first...I'd use the dual nut treatment, not a pipe wrench:eek:

dont knock it till you try it, it never even hurt the treads, besides what do you think the end looks like after you strip it out with a screw driver?

My concern was breaking the stud by using too much force...Threads were a seconday issue..

all this fuss about the rtv is new to me? i have 90 hrs on mine - have very steep hills here in md too. used my 900 rtv to hull stones (two buckets loads each time from a JD 3720) all day with no problems in power. the gear switching is a bit clunky (would like to have had hydro - but would have probably had to pay for that!) but the RTV seems to be built like a tank to me...the hydraulic dump and frame is the beefiest I've seen.

Which RTV do you have?
timswl,

I have an RTV 900 turf model.

It has the same valve body as the one in the picture that was posted a few threads back.\

Does your 900 run out of power going up hills and put have to pedal it back to keep it from bogging?.. If so, loosen the 14mm jamb nut and back the traded adjuster out 1 turn, then tighten the jamb nut...Drive it and see if there is an improvment. You can do more outward adjustments just don't get too carried away.

I'll try some PB blaster on it, clearly something is stuck! It is not dirty, corroded or in any way looks like it is more than a year old and always garaged.

I'd be worried about breaking the screw off also with a wrench, and I'd be worried about messing up the threads, something I'd prefer not to do since it works now, just not 100% where I think it should be. Mine does pull in first gear, but I run out of power to the wheels way before the engine bogs. Last night I loaded the back of the machine up with 9 oak wheels, and had my trailer on the back loaded with three 40+ inch wheels. We made it up some very steep hills here, but it was marginal at best.

I'll try to work on it this week end, but I need it to do work so I am bit concerned about breaking something and making it worse or unuseable.

regards

Wayne

I agree Wayne...be careful there...Marginal is better than nothing:)

I am not having issues with hill climbing, my issue is there is not enough power to even spin the tires while trying to tow or pull items. Specifically I have a floating dock on our property where the water levels change and we must "chase the water". It has wheels on the ramp that stays on dry land. There are times when the RTV will not pull the dock in or even spin the wheels, it just sits there and moans, not building any rpm's either. You would think it should have enough power to at least spin the tires if I were over doing it as far as weight goes. The dock does not weigh that much as all the weight is floating on the water and the ramp has wheels. In most cases the area is wet also. Go figure.

I am going to turn the adjustment one turn out and see if that helps. Do I need to adjust the throttle cable also?

I don't think you need to do the throttle on the diesel...

wonder if you had a chance to do this? My machine has wood in the back and I have not had a chance to play with getting this screw loose.
