Trailer Striping- How To?

Willl-First of all, in the "automotive painting world" a colored strip of paint is called a stripe. "Pin-striping" refers to a very different and unique artistic paint form. Your original answers seemed sarcastic and condescending. Pardon me, if I read something into them that was not there. Furthermore, was "change your user name" supposed to be a joke or helpful comment. Again, please pardon my ignorance if I've missed something. Regards, Mike

I took the "change your user name" comment to mean that bondo is not going to help in the pinstriping department. I can understand the confusion either way.

Back on topic... I've tried pinstriping with tape before, and I always get bleeding under the tape. A good, steady hand and a small brush are my preference.

I saw an applicator a long time ago, that was a bottle you put the paint in and it had a groved wheel. The paint dripped out on to the wheel and you rolled the stripe on like a small paint roller. Seems like you could put a lot of paint on quick, if you could use something as a guide.

I wonder how one of those paint pens would work. You may have to get a few to go the whole distance.

Check out this website: http://www.beugler.com

I've seen these demonstrated at bike shows, and they make it look pretty easy. Personally I would go with the vinyl sticky back tape that you can buy at any auto paint store.

Change your user name.

Thanks Willy (assuming you have one) :)

What did I miss that earned this new member your lousey attitude?? How about changing that ridiculous quote in your signature? Regards, Mike

Thanks for sticking up for me Mike...I don't know either??

pinstripping,, I never done it, but I admire the way the artists do it by hand with small long thin paint brush on shows like overhauling. Do you really want pinstriping on your trailer?

Like these: http://www.obenaufauctions.com/March21,2008-2005CarHaulerTrailer.jpg

what about the pin striping sticker you can buy at auto part stores? while they may not look as good as a pro painted on they might look better than a non pro that painted.:D

I think that's what I'm going to do.

Hey Bondo

Try this 3M Scotchcal Pinstriping Tape 3M Scotchcal Pinstriping Tape 40' roll

Looks good on this trailer:http://www.free-press-release.com/members/members_pic/200806/img/1212851126.jpg

"assuming you have one" Really ?, pretty funny coming from somebody that seems to be a little short on skin layers.

He would learn much more then I could EVER explain to him by watching and learning from a few vids.

The name "Bondo" gives others the idea that he might know something it.
And after reading his remark, if he needs some hints, I got a few.

I used to to this kind of thing...Let me tell you that in striping with a brush is incredibly difficult to get right.

I would get a single line 3m stripe and use it where ever you want. The trick to this is keeping a fairly tight pressure pulled on the stripe while applying. Pull with about to feet exposed and lay the tape down. Goes prettty smooth that way.

Wipe down all surfaces to be striped with rubbing alcohol.
That's the approach that I always use.

Good luck.
