Semi-auto .22 rifle recommendations

Hey, I've been to Rutland! 12 years ago though... touring from New Milford Ct, up to Woodstock Vt.

With the options for aftermarket trigger, why did you stay with and work over the factory trigger?

$750 for the rifle, or just for the scope? What scope did you pick?

Good Evenin Robert,
The scope is a Bushnell,3 x 9 variable, Im thinking it was about $115, and we opted to rework the trigger assembly to the tune of about $75 rather than go for an aftermarket assembly which is over $200...

We have an excellent gunsmith that does great work and is quite resonable ! :)

You got me scratching my head Scott, why a recoil pad on a .22LR?

Good Evenin Joe,
Just so the butt stays put, no slipping etc, not really a recoil pad per say, more of a sticky if you know what I mean ! ;)

After all not much kick on one of these guns !

FOUL! That's a bolt action. :D

If we're going down that route, I want to include my Remington 580. Extremely accurate .22 bolt action single shot rifle. Its a gnat killer! :D

The OP post was hijacked many posts ago.

Trying to remember--$75 for a Marlin 60 and now we're talking about a $750 10/22.

After doing a little research I purchased the Marlin 60. Proud owner of a 60SS that is on sale at Cabela's for $199. A little more than $75, but not as much as the tricked out Ruger. Stainless w/ the blue laminate stock. Looks good to me. Plan on taking it down to the compound this weekend to see what it will do. Updates to follow.

Is that a Unertl or a Lyman scope? That is waaaaaayyyyyy cool! Amazing what those old Unertl and Lyman(Feckler and Leischert too) are going for now.

Let us not forget the Remington Matchmaster:D

I have added recoil pads more for length than for recoil. One was a heavy barrel bolt action in 308. It had really mild manners recoil wise. It was just nice to have the longer overall stock length in my case.

Good Evenin Joe,
Nice lookin gun by the way !

I have to admit, Im not really knowledgeable about guns in general as you and some of the other fellas on here ! I just basically like guns and like shooting but its certainly not my level of expertise by any means. So when you ask me a technical question, I have to call Uncle Dave up and ask him why we are doing a certain thing to the gun ! :confused2:

I have read many posts of yours about guns and shooting and you obviously know what your talking about ! :)

Now if you want to talk about building furniture or possibly machining I can probablly hang in there with the best of them ! ;)

Good Evenin 2manyrocks,
My apoligies on high jacking the post...

It certainly wasnt intenional, and we are still talking about a 22 rifle, we certainly havent deviated onto another subject completely etc.....

Don't overlook the Remington 552 Speedmaster. It is probably the best semiauto .22 made but it is more expensive.

You sir are connoisseur of fine weapons, Got my speedmaster back in the 60s, probably 150,000 rds and never a problem.
I can't believe the difference in quality in hardware made in the US from the 30s thru the mid sixties. Most of the stuff made today, feels like somebody dumped some sand in the action, Ruger usually being an exception. My favorite squirrel eliminator is my single shot Stevens Model 15, 22cb caps and I can shoot all day without concerning anybody.

No apology to me is needed, but it is interesting seeing the wide range of .22's being brought up here. If anyone is really interested in knowing more about their particular .22, then www. rimfirecentral.com is the place. The forums there go into as much detail about particular .22s as we see about tractors here--right down to particular models of scopes, bases, rings, aftermarket triggers, etc.
