Can anyone help with this problem.
We have a 2006 Silverado truck, whne linked to a trailer has a problem with the indicator/flasher lights. The truck indicator/flasher lights work correctly.
If we hook up a correctly wired trailer to the truck both sets of indicator/flasher lights flash. In the manner of a hazzard switch being active.
According to our local trailer guys the wiring to the trailer is correct and it works correctly when fitted to a Ford.

The Silverado dealers tell us the truck is working correctly. But as I have stated the flashers are all working at the same time.
All other lights function correctly.
We have on the trailers a single per side, mixed function marker/stop/flasher lights

We have had to re-wire the trailer as it was found the trailer 'experts' cut wires to get the flashers working and when we had the truck headlights on, all the trailer lights went off.
Thanks for any help guys.

Sounds like a ground problem to me and not a Ford vs. Chevy. Make sure to hook the trailer to the truck and pull it a liitle bit. If the lights start working you need to hook a ground wire up because it is trying to ground through the ball. Probably the trailer isn't grounded properly, but the truck plug could've lost the ground as well.

The chevy (I believe) uses different bulbs for the signals/flashers and the brake lights so you most likely need a trailer light converter to eliminate the feedback from the trailer.

If it is the factory connector, it isn't using the signals from the taillights. On a 2006 the trailer is controlled by completely seperate circuits. They even have their own fuses.

I have a feeling I read somewhere about separate/different towing electrics for this truck. I was unable to find the info again. Dealers tell me just the opposite of course and say it should work, but let us be honest they are only as good as the person you talk to.

Does anyone have the wiring for the trailer hitch for this vehicle, or the best way to get these to items to work together. maybe I could then make sense of it and get it working without too much hassle.

Thanks all

Start with a for sure good ground on the trailer. I would bet the bad ground is there before it is in the truck.

Here is wiring diagrams for your truck and trailer.

Is this factory wiring on the truck or something you did yourself?

I can appreciate your problem. I have a 2007 GMC Sierra that has always had problems with the left signal light. I thought it was my trailer wiring but put it off. This year I rewired my trailer and guess what. Same problem. This truck has fuses for the truck and also for the towing or trailer lights. Every time I put on the left signal it will blow the 10 amp fuse. The dealer tells me that it is the connector (after market) or the trailer. The dealer that sold me the connector has hooked it up to a test machine and says there is nothing wrong with the connector. My neighbor can connect to my trailer and it works fine. Get this! I can put a 20 amp fuse in the holder and it works fine on my truck but will blow the 10 amp(called for) fuse in an instant.
Trying to get the dealer to understand this, but not sure if I want him tearing into the harnesses on my truck.

My 05 Dmax had the same issues. I had a bunch of electrical issues and they finally replaced a main wiring harness to solve the issue.

The wiring on the truck is factory. The trailer is wired by me, and I have verified the wiring on the trailer by many diagrams on the web. The ground is perfect as nothing is left to chance with the ground being taken back to the plug via a white wire for both lamps. Even connecting another heavy wire from the trailer to the truck to good earth points does nothing.

Can you give any more details on this adaptor, I have not seen anything about this.

I am not saying it is a Chev or Ford vehicle problem, or imply anything about either vehicle I own both. I do know if I connect the trailer up to my motor home the lights work fine, as it does to another Ford F150.

What I don't understand is why it will not work with the Silverardo. There has to be something different, with the socket wiring for it not to work, what that is I don't know and would like to find out, else I can't us the Chev for towing. That is the better vehicle for doing that sort of work.
I will add, my neighbours two trailers also refuse to work in the same manner when hooked to the Silverado.
