W.R. Long Inc. Grapple Problem

It just seem to me that if everyone can heap praise on a manufacture, then everyone can state the problems of a bad or inferior product. Now this problem is costing this man time and money, and you say that he should not be bashing a manufacture. He was just stating his observations. Facts are facts. Pictures would be a big help, to show what one might not believe, or to heap praise on a product. .

As much as I like my WR Long products I have to agree with JJ. I want to know if a company is having production issues or what ever the reason is. The unwriten policy of never say anything bad about something you bought is not a good way to share information. The flip side is I think that you owe the company the "air time" to tell how the did/did not make it right. No company is above a mistake. How they deal with them is every bit as important as the products they make.

I have a WR Long Model RBG-2 60 mounted on a Kubota L4310HST tractor . It's worked fine for the last 2 seasons picking rocks and logs (property-owner use).

Bought thru Chappel Tractor - Milford.

I hope WR Long stands behind a good fix for you. Did you approach the dealer?

Could you clarify what "manufacturer Bashing," is as opposed to a genuine concern, about the experience a member has with a product? I have to tell you that half of my interest in TBN, is product research. The other half, is knowledge gathering. If your telling me that I cannot post about a tractor, or attachment, problem in a factual contextual way, without being considered a no good manufacturer basher, then what is the point of this forum comrade? it does not bother me when a member vents about a problem he is having. That's because I will read hundreds of comments, and reviews before I judge a product. The last thing we need on this site, is a lack of freedom to express our opinions about products. By the way, what "manufacturer do you work for?

Insulting other users also violates TBN Terms Of Service.

From something Hakim wrote many years ago with some minor editing by me.

There are a number of issues with these types of posts/threads.

1) It is virtually impossible for us to know the actual "truth" of what happened. I am sure the poster of these kinds of messages feels aggrieved. But sometimes people can be unreasonable as customers too. How can we know who is right and who is wrong? We are only hearing one side of the story and that's not to say someone who starts a thread is not telling the truth. It's a simple statement of fact.

2) There is no problem talking about problems one has had -- as a general topic. It actually goes on all the time (and is always allowed by moderators). The real problem(s) arise when they use terms like "beware the crook" or "this guy is a thief.", "equipment from so and so is junk", "equipment from so and so is TRASH". and similar phraseology. These are libelous and (legally) actionable claims. Yes, businesses do get slammed, fairly and unfairly, especially on the Web. While TBN is as a general matter immune from prosecutions for things posters say, the POSTER remains liable for statements they make.

3) These kinds of issues should be resolved by courteous discussion and negotiation between the dealer and customer. Any large business has various customer service and warranty related issues. And it is only fair to give them a chance to respond and correct the problem. In this situation, that was NOT done before the thread was started. We actually are doing people a favor, since it reduces their exposure to libel action (though it is unlikely it'd occur).

I finally got some down time and was able to get the grapple welded back together, and some pictures of the damage. The welding shop said it appeared as though no one looked at the finished welds, because 5 of the seven teeth were not welded at the top. There was a bead, but it missed the shank completely on those five teeth. The second picture from the left shows the cracked weld at the top of the shank with the broken tooth. The welding shop also said it seems as though some of the welds Had very poor penetration, and some were perfect. Don Sloan informed me that the entire grapple is computer welded with flux core wire. So the inconsistency doesn't make any sense to me.
