My first pistol was a snub nosed 9 shot Hi Standard .22 revolver that I got for Christmas 1958. I believe it was 1960 when I traded it in on a Hi Standard Double 9 (western style) 9 shot longer barreled Hi Standard revolver. I sold that one in 1964 to get the money to buy the 5 shot .38 S&W Chief that I still carry.:)

Does that Chief look anything like the one in the attached pic?

It was my stepdads, I think he got it around '67 or so. It has only been fired a handful of times. It's a great little gun, I will never let it go.

Very similar, except the one you have is the more popular rounded grip while I have the square butt model. And my grip adapters are hard black rubber. The top gun in the picture is the one the city issued me in 1964. If an officer is honorably retired after 20 or more years service, he/she can buy the city issued gun, which of course I did.

One of my best shots came with my Buckmark .22 pistol. My buddy and I saw a squirrel's head sticking out from behind the trunk of a tree. I said I bet I can hit that and my buddy laughs and says no way. I laid down on my back and steadied the pistol on my knees and shot. The squirrel fell to our astonishment so we went and picked it up. It was shot clean thru the head. I paced it off afterward and it was 60 yards on the ground and the squirrel must have been 40 feet up in the tree.

Another time, at the driving range, I hit a ball with my driver. At the same time a starling flew by and the ball hit the bird with a loud thwack. There was a huge puff of feathers just like hitting a dove with your shotgun. My son just looked at me and asked me if I tried to do that.

My best shot ever was with a Army issued .45 at twilight. No more from me on that shot.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the ammo looks like .38 S&W,
and you gun probably is chambered for .38 special, which is a much more powerful round, lot's more stopping power.

I could be wrong, too, but the picture on the ammo box does look like .38, but the loose shells look to me like .38 special. Of course the .38 special is all I've ever used myself.

As long as he doesn't try to squeeze a .357 into it!:)

One of my grandfathers was a gunsmith. He sporterized an 8mm Mauser for me. Been a long time but I think I just happened to have the gun with me when I stopped by my buddy's farm. Guess I might have been 17 years old.

His parents were having some kind of get together and quite a few people were there. The guys had a target set up out in the field and were taking shots at it but no one had even come close. With my buddy egging me on, I brought out that mauser, laid out prone and put one dead center. Darn near brought the house down.

I guess the next best shot was taking out a ground hog at about 1250-1300 feet or so with my 22-250.

A friend of mine is into shooting the ground hogs big time I guess you could say. He has three, count em', custom built varmit rifles. One day he was out when he spotted not one but two coyotes. Actually, the first he ever laid eyes on. He took one shot, not really thinking but they were lined up and he popped them both.

Used to hand load and do a bit of customizing.
That to say that I knew bullet specs.

One day watching a deer trail when it got too dark to shoot, a grouse decided to do a fancy dance just to tease me.

I figured the grouse to be at about 20 ft and knew my 30-06 would shoot some +4 ins high, I aimed at that 4" spot, fired and was quite pleased to find a decapitated grouse thrashing about waiting to be plucked! Tasty!
