target shooting wise I once put 3 .243 rounds in 2.25" group at 300yds, other than that two occasions come to mind:

whitetail doe at 200yds with the 454 casull single action. I was in a pit blind, hands steadied on ground.

While a crew was working saturday on my pole barn I walked out well after sunrise with my gear and they told me I was too late......90% of the deer walk through my little woods between 8:15 and 8:45. Before there first coffee break, I shot a doe at 125 yds thru the timber with a t/c encore 50 cal muzzleloader....not a fantastic shot but it came at the right time.

Does a BB gun count?

When I was a kid I used to light stick matches stuck in a 2x4 with a BB gun at 30 feet.

Second best time was with my Dad, he used my BB gun and took 20-30 shots with great aim at a bottle and gave up handing me the gun back. I took the rifle and held it at my side shot one off and broke the bottle. We just sorta looked at each other and didn't say a word and I think I saw a smile on his face.

Does this count?
One time during my tenure as Chgo Cop, had two other guys on our tactical team, make a hand to hand buy with a local dealer, As the guy was supposed to be armed and have 3 Dobermans, they wanted me and my partner to back them up when they pinched him.
Go Back to apt, second floor landing, Yelling and knocking on door Police! Police!. No answer. Start to knock down the door with the sledghammer.( BTW The hall is brightly lit) Knock thru door and thier is a foyer with a second door. Pull out my Browning Hi-Power and Kick in second door
ME:6'1 silhouette backlit and he fires 4 shots from a 2in .38
(later went back and found a circular pattern on the wall behind, just about where my head would have been)
I fire three times(into total darkness, only firing at flashes) and my gun jams(checked later, firing surplus WW2 ammo)I back out into the hall and The offender yells out "I,m shot, and to this day I think its the best line I've ever used, I yell back "Then you shouldn't have shot at me you SOB" Theres more to the story, but not going into it for sake of brevity. Anyway I thought it was a pretty good shot.

To heck with brevity, I want to hear the rest of the story.

Just "Stories" ! Here I thought they was factual!:confused2:

How's that go? Oh yeah...

The older I get the better I was!

Funny thing is, all of us have some incredible moments in our lives. When we share them, folks tend to not believe us even though they are true. Me being a fisherman just makes it all less likely that anyone will ever believe anything I ever say.

...Yeah, I know it's supposed to be about guns, but a good shot is a good shot:D

That's O.K. When I was a kid we'd shoot poor man's skeet.... you take two rocks, throw one out high and take the other rock and try to hit it in mid air. You'd be surprised how many young boys can't do that on the first try, but by the end of the summer, most of us could maybe hit 40%. That still amazes me. And kids from other neighborhoods wouldn't mess with you if you could plug 'em with a rock from a hundred yards, either.:thumbsup:

The one that comes to me was shooting a red ear turtle across a rock pit at 90 yds open sights. Took the head off and the shell / body didn't move. Eyes were good back then.
My favorite shot was made by my son though. At 15 he shot alot of paintball and I was watching him after a tournament one day. His team mates would throw a couple of paint balls ijn the air as high as they could and at the apex of the throw he would shoot them out of the air - never missed. One of his team mates was was trying it and couldn't hit one. On about his fourth try, Cameron stood behind him and shot the paintballs for him without him knowing. As far as i know, Cameron never let his teammate know that he didn't shoot them himself. Pretty cool.

I've shot sub 1" groups at 100 yards & could make wire sing at 50' but my favorite was a woodchuck at 84 yards (yup I measured it) with a Hi Standard .22 pistol. Pales by comparison with others here. MikeD74T

I've shot 1" groups at 100 yards.... they were 1" high X 10" wide! The wind was blowing!

I also have two 9 shot Hi Standard pistols, one a long barrel and the other a short barrel, but no memorable shots with either. :)

Keep 'em coming, folks. :D

My first pistol was a snub nosed 9 shot Hi Standard .22 revolver that I got for Christmas 1958. I believe it was 1960 when I traded it in on a Hi Standard Double 9 (western style) 9 shot longer barreled Hi Standard revolver. I sold that one in 1964 to get the money to buy the 5 shot .38 S&W Chief that I still carry.:)
