Just saw this thread, wow, this is the 1st time I've ever seen this on this board. I don't think the small inclusions had much to do with it. I'm focusing on the discolored ends, meaning this was cracked previously. I've learned to be careful with box blades and only "pull" them forward to upset undisturbed dirt. Only back up to push a pile of freshly moved dirt around. While pulling, the forces are primarily tension on the lower rockers and while backing up they are compression. This is how stuff likes to bend. Also, it is all to easy to put a side load that can break something with a box blade. Catch a tree, rock or stump on the edge and you'll probably break something.

I'm glad JD is doing the right thing. I have a 2009 JD 3x20 and the housing is exactly the same as on your 2006 model (definitely iron). It is to be expected they did not have many failures or they would have modified the design.

Good to hear JD will repair at no cost to you..!! Back when I owned my first JD a 425 ,they replaced the engine for me ...I think that is why I still own a JD

Dealer told me today. The JD rep said that is was a bad casting and they would pay to replace it at no cost to me.

That is what they should do. All companies should do this too but often do not. One thing though, I do not like this idea of a warranty being some sort of 'gift' to the customer. What the warranty does is limits the manufacturer's responsibility for the product. Without the gift of warranty the company would have to repair defects forever.

Regardless of what the warranty limit is you can always sue if the item is not covered. In your case since the defect occurred at the factory it had be within the warranty period by definition.

What I am curious about is how this part ever passed inspection. Did the rep say where the part came from?

My "made in U.S.A." car needed $1800 worth of repairs at 30,000 miles. Much of that was to replace brake rotors and alternator all of which were "genuine" parts that were made in China. The alternator went again in two days and the mechanic was complaining that he was replacing the things all the time.

Strangely, the Chinese alternator and rotors might not have been a problem on a Chinese car. Maybe the American and Chinese parts don't get along with each other.

282hrs. Not a lot of time on the tractor. I would stay on the dealer
and John Deere. We spend a lot of money on our tractors and the reputation
they have. I wouldn't think Deere should have a problem helping you out.

I'm glad to hear JD is coming thru with a replacement. HEMA of Turkey
is the maker of the 3-pt cyl housing, and it is all cast iron/steel as others
have said. For reasons unknown, JD has actually INCREASED the use
of cast aluminum on the rear of this tractor. Now the center gearcase
as well as the 2 axle housings are Al. I could not get any answers out
of the JD factory reps at the recent WorldAGExpo about that. They
DID wrap a bit of steel around the problematic 3-pt arm lower pivots to
make them stronger. The 4x10 tractors, which were replaced by the
3x20s used Al axle housings, but cast iron/steel gearcases.

How was the Expo? I heard a couple of you were going to hook up at Robs and go down to the Expo together.

When I had my 2320 I had the U joint on the front shaft go bad . It snapped off the the splined input shaft to the front box. It was out of warranty but JD ate it. Better yet when I upgraded to my 2720 I noticed JD had a better front shaft, fixing the problem. The other problem I had was the battery leaking acid and corroding my cooler lines. JD changed that too in my 2720.
What can I say, it's a good company. I have a great dealer and he treats me like a king!

Got it back yesterday. All is well. I can say the finish on the new housing looks and feels smoother. It may actually be a little beefier. Not really sure.
