Those size of tractors are great in the mud. Have enough clearance, big enough tires for traction, and not too heavy.

The more I own the tractor the more I like it. I am not sure something bigger would add any value. A 5105M for our operations would be the perfect tractor I think.

Better than the 5525? A tad more power and the coolers are way easier to clean. When haying in the summer - cleaning those cooler is a must and it is a PITA.

Spring is SOOOO much fun...!!! Overshoe sucking days!

I can remember times when I'd have to walk to the back of the tractor to cut and pull the twine off a big round bale before I'd unroll it for the cows.. be at least 2-3 times a Spring when I'd pull off one or both overshoes and maybe end up with one knee in the muck, too!!

I teeter back and forth between a cabbed 4720 and say; a cabbed 5075M. Don't know enough about the transmission options for the M series and the various pros and cons of each variation.

What do have in your current 5525? What would you do differently with a new 5105M?

I have the 12/12 Power Reverser It is very rare I need another gear for the work I am doing. The upgraded trans in the M is pretty expensive.

I have a 4520 cab also with R4s. The 5525 has R1s. The 4520 stays in the barn in that kind of weather unless the 5525 is broken or we need two tractors.

I hear ya.

People have been baling for years with less gears - I suspect it would be fine. I don't think I would want anything less than 12/12. I look at the 6D series and I really think the transmission is holding that tractor back.

Are you baling with a 348 now?

No 348. Hoping the 336 is gonna do the job. Don't stop at the 6D -- go for the Premium with an IVT!!!

I like to test drive one of those... the IVT or CVT or whatever those tranny's are - appear to be very simple but durable.

I bet both will be fine.

IVT is a $9500 option.

I like the thought of a 6430 with the IVT and the building in refrigerator until I see the price tag. Then even the 5105M seems too expensive.

It seems to me there is a hole in the 5000 line and in some ways the 6000. There is a bottom and top - nothing in the middle.

It limits the degrees of movement down. The roll angle I guess is what they call it. It can be hard to pick up some items with a grapple bucket and I hear that with a hay grapple it can be hard to unload.

If you run a loader long enough you will know how much to roll the bucket.

I posted some pics a year or two ago about the issues with it.

I have the same loader and I agree with Darin, the max roll angle sucks, especially when the boom is fairly low. Raise the boom and the bucket seems to roll more, although this may be my imagination. SL is nice with the pallet forks though.

Last year when I was buying I checked out the 563 self leveling. Very good angles, excellent lift capacity, and smooth operation, but I just couldn't handle those gangly linkages blocking your visibility. Looked at the Quicke Dimension, SWEET but EXPENSIVE. Ended up with a Frey Vertex and got everything I wanted for about the same money as the 563. I'll post a pic if anybody is interested.
