Diamond,

I am in the Houston, Tx area. There is a region in northeast Texas that is overrun with trailer manufacturers, so one can get decent pricing. Since 2003 I have been spec'ing out my own trailers, what size structure, as well as spacing, axles, lights, etc. I pay a little more than an "off the shelf" trailer, but I know that I have one built stout enough to handle my needs.

Good deal. Its nice having manufactures for stuff like this near by. Gets you what you want at a decent price.

Yes I know what your talking about, the overrun manufactures, I should be picking my trailer up wendsday, from Emory Tx I order it 5 weeks ago and I did like you did, added on what i wanted, I added on 12K axles 6" extension on the up rights, LED lights pierced framing 12" I-beam neck.

Tractorboy,

I like your style. I have crunched the corners on a few of my trucks over the years from rough terrain and a Gm sitting too close to the bed. Any chance you ordered from Longhorn Trailer in Emory? A few years back I had them build me a 45' straight deck Gn with 12k axles, elec/hyd brakes, sliding ratchets. Real nice trailer, but it was a PITA hauling it home from through some of those small town squares. After seeing the work they did on the 45', I had them build 6 32' tandem duals for a friends company.

Yes I ordered it from Longhorn Trailers, I looked at some of your other post and seen that the blue car hauler was from Longhorn, I like the blue color, it shows off the trailer very well. I order a 24+5, due to i have a 40' shop and this trailer just fits by a few inches, I got 38' from inside door to the other inside door.
I am in the process of selling a shop built 22' gooseneck with 2 7K axles. soon as i pick the new trailer up i will post it on craigslist for $3250.00 hate to sell it, its a good pulling trailer ,I need something to hold more weight.

Beppington,

Sorry to hijack your thread... I tend to go off on tangents... I'll try to throw in some extra pics, as pics in a thread seem to make things better:D

tractorboy5500,

The weekend that I picked up the 45' trailer from Longhorn ended on and interesting note. I have a small place near Centerville, and had planned to spend the weekend up there with my brother and his wife riding horses. At the time my brother did not have a truck setup for a GN, so he used my wife's Dodge 2500 4x4 and her 4 horse LQ. My wife and I drove up in my Dodge 3500 4x4 to pick up the trailer. After spending the weekend riding, and enjoying our time away from the city, we headed home late Sunday evening. I had some fencing projects planned back home in La Porte for the following week, so I loaded our Kubota farm tractor, some gates, fencing, etc on the flatbed and headed home. When I hit the Hardy toll road, the turbo went out on my wife's truck while hauling the horses home. Now, I did not have any ramps for the 45' trailer, because I planned on putting it to work hauling pipe and fittings. I ended up finding an embankment that I could back the trailer up to, then loaded the dodge 2500 on the trailer with the Kubota and fencing supplies. Had a friend come pick up the horse trailer and bring them home. It was quite a sight to see...

I have a very similar story about when I blew the turbo in my while hauling some hay behind my Dodge 3500... I won't bore y'all with the details, but I will post a pic that got me plenty of trash talking on the CB. If you will look just to the left of the mail box in this pic, you will see the bar ditch that I had to use to unload my wife's 2500 when it blew the turbo. The truck was in the field across the street, the trailer spanned the street, and the axles were in the ditch:D

Here's a couple of pics that show the abuse that truck has received. The top and bottom rolls are two wide, except for the top front.

Here another pic on one of my loads... 300 sq bales of some junky feed store hay on my 2003 Tex-Nex 32' GN (25+5)

Your luck with Turbo's is not good. I have had 4 diesel trucks and work them very hard and zero turbo issues.

Diamond,

Having had several diesel trucks, and using the snot out of them Powerstrokes 2-1995, 1-1997, 1-2002, 1-2003,1-2004,2-2008,
duramax's 1-2005, 1-2006,1-2007,
cummins1-2002,1-2003,
I have found the weakness in them all:D

The turbo failures I mentioned were "self inflicted"
First one failed as a result of an aftermarket open element air filter getting a hole in it and allowing dust to get in. 200k later and the truck still runs great, no smoke or oil consumption.

Second one, in the 03 dodge, I had an Edge power box set on level 4. The Edge is a pressure box, and it was running the common rails at max pressure for extended periods. I ended up with an injector failure, flooded the crankcase with diesel, with effected the lubrication of the turbo, and caused that failure. Nothing to blame on the mfg...just a couple of expensive lessons.

Man, you have had a lot of diesels.

I did not have a chip or filter on my 05 Dmax but all 3 of my Powerstrokes, 99, 04, and 06, have had 4" exhaust, Quadzilla Chips, and MAC intakes and filters. The 04 also had a custom tuned chip on it for about 6 months. Man would that thing run but it was on the ragged edge all the time.

Anyway, sorry to hear about the problems with the turbo's but I guess 2 is not that bad with all them trucks.
