hydraulic hose assemblies

Just an observation from a bystander with no dog in the fight. When one is asked a direct question, such as asking the composition of the liner, and no direct answer is given, I don't get a warm fuzzy feeling about the product.

I don't know what the exact composition of the rubber is?

I have never been asked that before. i will ask the manufacturer and post reply.

Our hose is not cheap it is inexpensive because you are buying factory direct not through resellers or brokers.

As far as Weatherhead hoses we think our hose assemblies are superior to Weatherhead because we skive our hoses. Meaning we remove the cover of the hose and we crimp the fitting right on to the wire insuring strong coupling retention.

That is a weak selling point at best. Having built and installed hundreds, maybe thousands of Weatherhead hoses over the years, the crimp is not what fails when a hose needs to be replaced, especially in 1/2" and smaller hoses. Hoses get replaced because they fail from abrasion or weathering. My opinion is that a 2-wire hose lasts longer than a 1-wire hose because of this. The only advantages a 1-wire hose may have, is a tighter bend radius and cheaper initial cost.

I would be buying "factory direct" but you have to "check with the manufacturer" as to the composition of the hose inner liner? What a load of hooey.

Skieved hoses? Speaking strictly from practical experience and not from formal education on the subject, I would not knowlingly buy skived hose assemblies. Compromising the outer layer by skiving will do nothing but shorten hose life by allowing water and other contaminants to degrade the wire compopnent of the assembly as the outer hose layer does not extend to the butt of the crimp.

This looks like a case of "Bringing a "Knife to a Gunfight"!! I'm not 'dissin' unitedhose, and welcome by the way! Just thought you should know that Wayne is a trusted member in the TBN forum and you will be 'tested'!!! ~Scotty

we only skive the part where the fitting crimps onto the hose. the end of the ferrule goes over rubber insuring no water gets into the wire section. nothing can touch the wire the ferrule closes down on the rubber cover

no fear, bring it on.

We know we make great hose assemblies. Skepticism is a perfectly normal healthy and natural reaction to something new, especially when it seem to be to good to be true

For those people who may be interested in ordering from you, what is your normal turn around time for your std hoses and for custom hoses?

the hose assemblies you are buying direct, we don't manufacture hydraulic hose or hydraulic fittings however we buy hydraulic hose direct and our hose fittings from a fittings manufacturer and assemble the hoses in our shop and ship direct to the customer.

here is reply from manufacturer

Hello, steve:

Your order is under production now.

We use the NBR rubber for the inner tube

like i said it is normal buna nitrile, the inner tube is such a tiny percentage of the overall cost of a hose it would not make sense to use improper materials.
think of all the costs that go into making a hose:

inner tube, wire, outer cover, labour to make the hose, steel for fitting, machine rate to make the fitting, labour then to make the hose and all the assorted overheads involved.
