2 Bottom Plow - Any Advice Appreciated

Here's the scenario...
Last week I picked up a 2 bottom IH Fast Hitch C-20 plow..pics attached. At first the game plan was to chop it up and modify it for 3pt use. BUT, my sentimental side kicked in and I am having a hard time bringing myself to chop up a vintage plow which is in such good shape....Well, that coupled with the fact I'm a new dad...I dont exactly have time to devote to this project :confused2:
SO...I put this plow up on craigslist with the idea of trying to sell it and just buying a 3pt plow...OR if worst comes to worse, I'll chop it up this plow at the last minute. Basically whichever comes first type deal...

All that being said...does anybody have an experience with the Frontier PB1002? I havent priced it out yet but it looks to be not too bad in price... The TSC 2 bottom price interested me, but last time I bought a TSC implement it lasted 2 hours anybody have experience with the TSC one?

Yeah, I agree with you...BUT, I just cant seem to find any affordable 3pt ones... I know where theres a really nice IH 420 2 Bottom 3pt...would be ready to rock and roll, but I paid less for my 6' Tiller then what they want for that plow.
You can actually go and buy a brand new KKII 6' tiller for less then what they want for theat plow
While I have seen a few 3pt ones that are affordable, they are usually shot and would require a total rebuild...cheaper to then buy one of the cheapie new ones.

For the 2x I use it a year...in addition to my tiller.
The only reason I need a plow is to take care of my cover crop. Last fall both my FIL and I planted winter rye.... I tilled mine in this spring and he plowed his in (followed by a tilling a month later)....his garden is BEAUTIFUL and mine is still growing rye....If I dont get a plow its not a show stopper, just gonna mean no cover crop this year.

Heres another Q for you....how does plowing with a CUT work out? The dealer with the 420 said it might not work all that great because of wheel spacing, etc...I got my tiller there so they told me to just stick with my tiller.

As long as you stay with a regular clearance plow you should be ok.(No High Clearance) No matter what plow you use, The center of the drawbar to the edge of the right rear tire needs to be 23 inches for 12's--25 inches for 14's and 27 inches for 16's. If you don't hit these measurements, the first plow will cut more or less than it should. (new or used). I am working on getting some pictures of a Ford 2-bottom plow to you today or tomorrow with coulters and no rebuild needed. Ken Sweet

I dont doubt that.....Had the price been reasonable, I woulda just bought that 420 when I saw it...he pointed me to it to get measurements and such off it to modify my C-20.

Thanks for all the info & Specs...I'll measure my 3520 tonight. Just so I have this right...the measurements listed are from the Center of the drawbar to the INSIDE edge of the Right Rear tire? If so...going solely from memory, my measurement would be 14"
Also appreciate the pics of that ford 2 bottom...

Is there such a thing as a 3 bottom on land? Given the CUT setup, might be a better idea?

I don't want to get into a mudslinging war with anyone here but,take a look at the Frontier pb1002 and to me it looks just like the Leinbach,International(World Agritech Corp,)and or Worksaver plow painted pretty JD green.I doubt if Frontier makes that plow.I have the single m/b version 14"(Inter.W.A.C).Also I have noticed on the "Frontier" the front beam is cut short and looks almost like you could not mount a coulter wheel on that beam up front.http://www.deere.com/en_US/newsroom/media/images/2008/high_res/august08/10seriesplow_486312.jpg
I have seen the TSC 2 beam plows and would not buy one IMHO(please nothing personal to anyone here who owns one).You know if your going the Leinbach,Inter.(WAC),or Worksaver route Mr.Ken or Ted sell them.
O BTW these plows are shearbolt protected.

You are right on the measurement. At 14 inches you would need to move your right rear and right front out to meet these basic starting points (on any plow 1-2-3 bottom), Yes they do make on land plows in the 3 bottom, however, most I see are IH or JD and weigh about 1500 + pounds. Ken Sweet

Yep I agree, I KNOW they dont make it, I wonder who really does?....my experience with Frontier and my JD Dealer is when its all said and done its usually cheaper or at very most ends up costing the same as the other brands. (Nobody stocks them, gotta special order, pay shipping, etc) factor in my GREAT JD Dealer, and I like to do all my business there...

Once again, the info is very much appreciated Ken!
My FIL has a Deere 3 bottom "tow behind" which allows him to be onland...I wish I could find one of them!
The more that I learn about plowing, the more I think I should just completely forget about it.....well, until the FIL hands down his
