Mow along the highway

Mine gets bad enough, and I dont bother with the local yokels and their way of doing things, this spring I repositioned a marker they put in my lawn as I could not mow around it safely.

I usually end up getting out the propane burner to get rid of it all as it is to steep to mow unless I have ambition with the weed wacker but it grows back.

Hey Triple R have you had to clean or change the cabin filters on the 8540 yet?
Are you spoiled by the air conditioning yet?

Not yet, but will before I use it again tomorrow. I am disabled and can't reach them, so I have to have my wife or one of my sons do the outside filters.

I was "spoiled" a long time ago by my L5030. My CX80 had AC too, but my other utility tractors were open station and I continued to use them, but now
I pretty much steer clear of them.

I leave it to the city (I live in a strange suburban/rural island "city") to mow, and I learn from their mistakes.

They let it get so tall that they can't see what's there. One time they mowed the phone pedestal. What a mess.

The moral is make sure you know what's hiding in the weeds.

One of the reasons everyone on my section of this roadway mows as we have all been out of service before. I also spray Roundup around the three service boxes on my section of the road so I don't have to mow close.

Good for you you deserve a little luxury as you have worked hard.

was it one of the steel fiber optic splice boxes or the totem pole buried cable termination boxes?

Either one makes a mess and a bit of noise:thumbsup::laughing:

One of those zillion-pair copper splice panels in a tall green box. I wish I had been around to hear it

TripleR had a good suggestion - maintain it myself to keep the city from wiping it out again. It's on a cut bank topped with a plum thicket, so it takes a hog on an arm to deal with it (what does one call that nightmare machine, anyway?) and I don't have the machinery or nerve to mess with it.

A little manual clearing with a weed whacker might help avoid an outage the next time the city comes blundering along, though...

BTW, anyone have any idea why I don't get email notifications when someone posts? I have it enabled, I think.

You have to "subscribe" to the thread to get email notifications, I believe. In the gray bar at the top of the page (not the very top) you will see "thread tools" and if you pull down under that you will find the option to subscribe to the thread. I had to look around a bit to find that myself. Hope this helps.

Thanks Bluelick,

What I see there is "unsubscribe", so there's something more sinister going on. Threads to which I've posted always show as subscribed and the personal options I can find seem to indicate that I should get notification.

It's a mystery to me. I'll go in search of the web maestro here.

Mow about 1/4 mile on both sides. It makes it nice for people walking to be able to step off the pavement when Racer X comes driving by. Grass never gets high enough to hide anything spectacular.

Unspeakable what people toss out of cars. Nuff said.

The thought of a county mower hitting a phone pedestal made my day. You guys are priceless. :)
