LilRanch, before I bolt this fine thread let me tell you that was a cheesy and sour grapes response if I ever saw one........

cheesy maybe...... but sour grapes? I think not.
I have no reason to have sour grapes.
I just think a dealer prices things (in my experience) at the price point that they are going to get their return on investment, and sometimes I think people whine without having any business experence on why prices are where they are.
I am sure you want to earn an honest dollar for your work, and without a dealer making money that dealer is not going to be in business long.
I like this forum, but I see a lot of whining by people who do not have a clue, thus my post.

:)

I did not know that offshore manufacturers have started using SAE. I wish they would all convert back to the old way of measuring and get rid of this Metric crapola. Ken Sweet

The loader is USA made. Apparently the tool carrier is as well.

I already stated that I don't fault the dealer. They are charging what they need to charge based on what they are being charged for the part.

ok Then I am curious, what was the initial rant about then?

Initially, I didn't know if it was Mahindra or the dealer that priced the bolt - and I said so.

The rant was the idea of a $10-nothing-special bolt. I think there are parts that are worth a premium b/c of R&D or special specs req'd. No problem. But $10 for a plain-Jane shoulder bolt is nothing more than an attempt to take advantage of the unsuspecting. By Mahindra USA - the loader mfr.

Fortunately, I am part of the suspecting rather than the non variety. I easily found what I needed for a reasonable price and my life is grand.

Dealers are there to make a profit as it should be. However I found that by shopping prices at different dealers can save the customer money. For example the hydraulic filter on my tractor was almost 50% cheaper at one local dealer compared to another. I am not sure why one is cheaper but I learned to shop around.

If the high cost of a bolt can be attributed to shipping costs, shouldn't a second or third bolt be priced less? Considering all three bolts were shipped together, I'd expect to recieve a savings, as the dealer would be paying only one shipping charge.

The USA is adopting the Metric system and phasing out the SAE.
This started back int he early 70's and will be completed in the year 1979.
In the 70's, there was an expression being stated "Think metric". Some U.S. road signs of distances to cities started showing kilometers next to miles. They both appear to have become history long ago.
only the U.S. and Burundi have not officially adopted the metric system.

When I was doing tool and die work in the sixties and seventies, everything was SAE, I quit in 1980 and did not get into metrics until the last 10 years or so. It is really simplier than SAE, once I understood the concept. Ken Sweet

I for one am happy with the current system.

I had to replace my glow plugs on my old 2615....its a part that has no cross reference for another manufacture, so I had to buy from my dealer...$120 bucks later I have three new plugs that went bad in 2 days (he sold me the wrong ones). I had to exchange them for the proper ones. I looked on line for the same glow plugs and found every one made except for the ones I needed...average cost was $8.00 a plug. So where is the $40.00 a plug comming from?
Say what you want, but a $32.00 mark up per glow plug is making someone rich!

I know on ATV parts the customer can save a bundle if you can wait for the parts to be shipped. On my tractor and lawnmower I always need it back in service and pay the local dealer price. Convience usually costs.

Metric!!! I just came out of hospital. While there a nurse came in room with a scale. I jumped on and looked at readout..... 98; wow I either lost a lot of weight or the scale was wrong. Neither; they weighed me in kilos, I believe.

Why does the good old USA have to change to fit others standards????

Cheers....Coffeeman

I have never talked to a single person that is thrilled about the metric system. The so-called leaders of our nation have sold us down the river. Next thing to go will be the speaking of English as a first language. Why can't people that want to be citizens of our country, learn our language. Ken Sweet

I think we should not lump the metric system with immigration. Different issues. The metric system is simple and easy to learn. The immigration problem...not so simple!
