Just kidding, John Deere makes excellent tractors and I may buy another some day.

Just kidding, John Deere makes excellent tractors and I may buy another some day.

I don't believe there's a nickel's worth of reliability difference between any of the major brands, and I'd have been happy with any of them, since all of them I looked at would have been a major step up in convenience and ease of use compared to my trusty but long-in-the-tooth 1982 L295DT. I ruled out several big names only because of cramped legroom (when are some of the overseas makers like Kubota going to learn?) and my personal dislike of heel & toe hydro pedals, although I admit that's mostly a result of the uncomfortable position my right leg gets forced into on many compacts. Few compact tractor seats slide far enough back to suit me, and I'm only 6'4". I don't know how really big guys could drive one of them.

But wow, what a glaring difference in dealers! I ran into everything from outstanding to dismal where sales staff was concerned. As a result, I'm a believer in buying dealer first and tractor second, or at least driving a ways if necessary to get the tractor you want from a dealership you trust. Price helps, but price alone won't sell me a tractor if I think the dealer is a weasel with disinterested sales people and and a dirty, cluttered, inadequately staffed shop.

Actually, they're all good in their own ways...other then some of the chinese junk...overall, chinese goods lack quality. But they are cheap and most problems result from underfunded or "fly by night" dealers.

First tractor I looked at was a Kubota...BX2200 to be exact. That was too small but the B7500 was just the right size. However, a very nice little green 670 came around (slightly bigger then the B7500)...and the rest is history.

I think Deere could be successful, if they could just get the color right :D Ken Sweet

If you would have bought that B7500 you probably would still have it. :D

I have a JD X495, and have a 2520 on order. I am keeping the 495, and trading in a Yanmar YM276D on the 2520.

I've had the Yanmar for over 25 years, and it hasn't given me any problems at all. I sure hope the new 2520 is as good.

That being said, my X495 is the 4th JD lawn/garden tractor I have had, and all of them have worked perfectly. Each time I traded in, I moved up a step or two in size, and now am at the X495. When I traded in for each, I got at least 75% of what I had originally paid for each unit as a trade value. Here in Ontario Canada, any sales taxes are only paid on the price difference, so when you calculate that in as well, I have probably ended up with close to a 90% trade value. Can't beat that with a stick in my opinion.

Whether the quality is real or perceived, used JD equipment hold it's value. When I decided to go for the 2520, first I couldn't find anything like that used, but used 2305's were going for about 2K off a new one. Which way would you go.

That is all true, however it is true of not only JD equipment.
If you've never researched used equipment prices of other "big" colors, you may well be surprised. ;)

Way to go TripleR!!! It's funny how some JD loyalists brag about the accessibility of parts. So, you buy a tractor because it's easier to repair when it breaks down? LOL... I don't have to worry about parts for my BX.

How about parts for a 30 or 40 year old riding mower? I got them for my Deere in a couple of days! That's what we mean about parts.

My John Deere Dealer treats me better than my folks, and he lives just 2 miles up the road....:D
