I agree that smokers have been treated unfairly, it's a big pet peeve of mine (I've never smoked but it's a lawful activity for goodness sakes).

But, I think the difference with smoking is that doing it effects the surrounding people and their environment. In that the activity is not restricted to the smoker. I think carrying a weapon does not do that and in fact is a more benign act. I agree though if you own a shop, and work by yourself do what you want. Economics are the ultimate determiners of whether activities will succeed, fail or evolve and modify NOT more government intervention. (insert sound of soap box music or "hail to the cheif" here LOL).

In any case, I wonder if there is a way to see if, in 6 months or so, the bank has stopped being robbed. If the robbers are dope addicts and scumbags I doubt they will stop or care about any old sign, but if they are robbers who plan things, they probably will look for the easiest target.

"Smith been contacted by officials from larger banks considering to take similar action, and has received e-mails in support from across the United States and even from England, Canada and Germany.

"I haven't gotten any (support e-mails) from Chicago or California, which doesn't surprise me, Smith said with a laugh."


Support from Canada? JimmyJ are you keeping something from us?

I believe it's true that when guns are outlawed, only criminals will have guns.

I also believe the potential for gun violence increases with the number of guns readily available. It's an arms race brought down to the personal level. If armed criminals believe they may be confronted with guns, they will be more likely to use their own. Robbery with a firearm is a serious felony. The criminals, who have already bet the farm, may not be deterred, just use more and better weapons more readily.

I fear we may be facing serious problems ahead There is way too much of this going on in our country. Where does all this indeterminate fear come from? Afraid of what, exactly? I hate to think of the end result if people's thinking is: "I'm afraid, I need a gun."

I have no personal experience for this opinion, but I believe carrying a gun and being able to use one well under stress, and making correct split second decisions is not in the realm of the average citizens capability. I know - very few of us think we are average
