Did Colorado Machinery buy them out?

They were bought out by US Tractor. I have called the three closed JD dealers and they were all bought out by US Tractor. None of them have any inventory for me to look at. It will be at least a month, best case scenario.

I will be driving some Kubotas and New Hollands hopefully soon.

Colorado Machinery has been buying up the Front Range and plains dealerships. That leaves Potestio Brothers in Parker and Colorado Springs, and Long's Peak in Longmont as the only non-chain choices for me.

I have purchased two brand new John Deere tractors here's why: The first is the dealer and shop is excellent. They even have free pick up and delivery which makes major service painless. They were also the most pleasant to deal with when I was buying.

Next is 0% financing. There are a lot of people here who advocate buying used. That's great, but if you're financing a used tractor at 5-10% over 36-72 months the benefit really starts to fade in savings. The other issues I had with buying used were, having to spend a large amount of time online constantly searching for a really good deal on a very specific tractor or two, and then hoping somebody else doesn't beat you to it first. Then it will have to be inspected or shipped unless you are lucky enough to find one within 50 miles of you (not likely.) So this is a real PITA.

Another huge one is warranty. Call me cynical but I don't want to get a really good deal on somebody else's lemon or problem. With a new tractor I also get peace of mind that if anything breaks on it in the first 3 years I'm not out any money. Who knows what the clown before me did or didn't do during the time he owned it. Think Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Lastly is the JD just "fits" me better. I tried the NH, Kubota and Branson tractors and they just didn't seem as comfy and well thought out as my JD did. Do not underestimate this factor, especially if you're going to really spend a lot of time driving it.

Welcome to the forum and let us know what you decide.

BTW, I grew up in Cedaredge and Mesa!

Cedaredge is a great community.

I am seriously considering a JD but I can't find anyone within a couple of hours drive that has anything for me to look at, let alone drive. All of the dealerships within a 90 minute drive have given me the run around as far as when they will get some inventory and what inventory they will get. I will have to drive at least 5 hours if I want to look at any JD's in the 60-80 HP range. I don't know how much motivation I have to do that. We'll see.

I looked at some MF's today and just didn't like the interior as much as the Kubotas. The cabe is HUGE but the controls are not as user friendly in my opinion. They are low on inventory as well but at least had something for me to look at. I'll see what kind of deals they can give me before I go another further with the MF's.

Your post on the HUGE cab reminded me of something recently discovered/realized. One thing some people see as an advantage, others view otherwise. We traded our Case CX80 for our M8540 and the cab on the Kubota is smaller. Initially that was viewed as a negative, but I have come to appreciate the smaller cab. The grab rails are easier to reach to hang onto or brace myself while mowing inclines and I can thread it through places that would knock the lights off the cab on our Case. The down side is there is no room for a buddy seat.

I do think you would like the John Deere also, but fully understand the dealer situation. I believe a comparably equipped John Deere will cost more, but it may not be enough to matter. You might want to "build" one on both websites for comparisons purposes as I may be way wrong.

The cab issue is definitely interesting. Both the New Holland and the Massey have bigger cabs. These cabs would be nice since my little boy is 2 years old and LOVES to ride in tractors! But, I feel like the big cabs are less user friendly compared to the Kubota. The controls in the Kubota just seemed to really make sense for me. Plus, we plan on using the tractor for many small jobs like starting a garden, landscaping duties, etc. I feel that the Kubota's smaller cab and footprint allow it to do the small jobs very well. That is important for our applications.

I am waiting on some Massey quotes and a New Holland 4030 quote. I am not ready to rule these out, especially the New Holland. Then I can accurately compare all of them. I am still trying to figure out how to deal with the John Deere dilemma.....

I wonder if some of the inventory problem is because of model year change over?

John Deere is also phasing some models out, so that may also be a factor. I haven't been to a Deere dealer lately, but have to pick some stuff up there Monday and will check their inventory out of curiosity.

Today's update:

Kubota - The local Kubota dealer came down in price. I think he still needs to come down some more compared to what I can find online. But, at least he's willing to deal a little bit. I am still waiting on his New Holland quote for the 4030 and 4040.

JD - I found a dealer about 75 miles away who seems pretty aggressive. I can drive down there and get a feel for the JD's since he has some tractors to show me (some on the lot and some recent customers). He is pushing the 5083E Limited and his quote is very competitive with the Kubota M7040. The local dealer has resurfaced as well. He has a 5083E Limited that he sold in May to a guy who lives close to me. He will contact the owner and see if he is willing to let me look at the tractor. Both him and the other dealer seem to think that the 5083E Limited will fit my needs the best. The local dealer should get back to me tomorrow with a quote for a 5083E Limited.

I am getting much more interested in the JDs after I do some more research. The 8F/8R transmission in the Kubota M7040 compared to the 12F/12R in the JD 5083E is a real concern for me. Plus, it seems like I can get the JD 5083E Limited for close to the same cost, in fact I know I can if I buy local. I am really curious to compare the cabs and controls of the JDs compared to the Kubotas and New Hollands.

I have been searching the 5083 threads to get a better idea. I will continue to do some more research.

The JD 5083E sure looks like a nice tractor and if it is comparably priced even better. John Deere makes really good equipment.

Though these tractors are out of my league....I am enjoying this thread.

ColoradoDan is going to buy a nice big tractor and now JD is in the mix.:licking:

This is way better than Dancing with the Stars.!!

Best wishes Dan. No doubt you will come out of this with a quality tractor, regardless.

Well, I was able to spend some time in a JD 5083E Limited today. I was impressed. I would say the cab is pretty comparable to the Kubota. I liked the layout, the size, and the comfort. I think I may like the controls a little bit better on the Kubota, but its pretty much splitting hairs to come up with one I like better. They are both very nice:thumbsup:.

However, the difference between the 8F/8R on the Kubota M7040 HDC-1 vs. the 12F/12R on the JD 5083 Limited is pretty substantial in my mind. Just more versatility for me.

The local dealer quote on the JD 5083 Limited is less than $2,000 apart from the local dealer quote on the Kubota M7040 HDC-1. I am speaking with some other dealers who appear to be a little more aggressive than the local dealers. I think I'm making progress:).

Well, the decision has been made and the ink has dried.

Today I ordered a John Deere 5083E Limited from my local dealer:thumbsup:. It is equipped with the 563 NSL loader and three rear remotes. I decided to purchase the third rear remote in order to have the ability to equip the tractor with TNT down the road. I am probably looking toward the end of the month for delivery, just depends on how quickly the dealer can get one.

The decision came down to a few main factors. I had narrowed down the choices to either the Kubota M8540 or the JD 5083E. I spent that last five or six days going back and forth but a few things sealed the deal for me. I will list them in order of importance:

1. I will never do business with my local Kubota dealer:mad:. This includes service. I was disappointed in their business ethics and their professionalism. The experience with them was terrible. On the other hand, the JD dealer was honest and professional the entire time. He turned out to be great to deal with. I almost pulled the trigger and purchased the M8540 from Barlow's but I couldn't even stand the thought of taking my tractor into the local dealer for service:(. The last few days of dealing with my local dealer were painful to say the least.

2. Price. The Kubota M8540 is obviously a more powerful tractor than the JD 5083E. With that comes a higher price. I will not discuss Barlow's price but I will say their price was great. However, the JD 5083E price turned out to be significantly less than the Kubota M8540 price. In fact, the price for the JD 5083E was a little over $7,000 less than my local Kubota dealer's price for the M8540. The price was basically the same for the M7040. Also, my local JD dealer was able to offer me 0% for 60 months which matched the Kubota offer.

3. Size of Tractor. I just felt toward the end that the M8540 was a little more tractor than I needed for my property. It has about 10 PTO hp more than the JD 5083E. I would be paying for the extra power of the Kubota but really won't end up utilizing the full potential of the tractor. I decided to scale down and pay a little less money.

4. Influence that JD has in my area. I spent some time driving around this weekend and really couldn't find many orange tractors. They were mostly green tractors. While this isn't a reason to buy one vs. the other I suspect that many other people had similar experiences with the local Kubota/New Holland dealer.

5. Implement size. I am more comfortable pulling a cat I implement with the JD 5083E compared to the Kubota M8540. I plan on buying my mostly cat II implements but I will likely buy some cheap, used cat I implements for minor jobs. I feel more comfortable pulling them with the JD compared to the Kubota. I can save some money by going this route.

I will be sure to post pics when the tractor is delivered. In the meantime I plan on not sleeping at night:D.

Thanks to everyone for all of the info. I feel that I made the right decision but only time will tell. I'm excited to say the least:thumbsup:.

While I have Kubota, I understand why you chose green and agree that it fits your needs and you have a dealer you are comfortable with. If you got anxious while shopping for your tractor, rest assured that part is over. Now comes the hard part, waiting for the new tractor to arrive. Take lots of pictures, enjoy your investment and keep us posted on your projects.

:DCyril, he must have already paid his property taxes or he would have had to wait.

BTW, my local Kubota dealer was a real turn off too. He never gave me the time of day and acted as if I was a burden to him. I went there each time I was buying new tractors and his attitude was the same both times. This was also a deciding factor for me as well. No other dealers gave me attitude and I shopped Branson, New Holland and Kioti as well.
