I understand the anger you are feeling at seeing the open society you have defended for a lifetime, being slowly fenced in....

It is indeed a sad sign of the times. I am with you 100%.

I won't add much more than my 2 cents to the volumes already written on this thread regarding the origins of the decay that provokes these small attacks on our personal liberty and private behavior, the Net has done an admirable job of that.

I will point out however, that everywhere I look, I can still find beacons of hope in the form of people that still have a sense of Honor, and find such folks in all ages and flavors.

It ain't all bad news....Buddy, but it's the bad news that sells....

Look at the folks here on the Net....some pretty fine specimens here, if you ask me, and drawn from a world spanning pool...

Keep up your standards, try to ignore the petty insults, look past the bad news on the propaganda (media) outlets and try to find the hope that's just outside the notice of our media and lawmakers, working hard to do "...ride, shoot straight and tell the truth..."

Be Safe!

]Oh please such drama![/B] Back then it was Elvis gyrating his hips, and that dam* rock and roll music that was destroying the youth of America, but you know what my parents turned out just fine, and raised two fine kids in the end. It's all a matter of perspective.

Thanks ! So Pushing _Tin you are saying I have a future as an Actor...Wow !:cool:

I'm glad to see that everybody can express their opinions without having the thread locked down. While I may disagree with some of you, I sure do respect your thoughts and enjoy reading about your perspectives. ;)

IMO, that is because everyone is respecting each other and their opinions. It's the threads which degrade to the point where people and opinions are being put down and insulted that get shut down. As long as we continue to treat each other with respect, the thread should remain open.

BTW, as far as what I think...
...this Marine has to stand with 20 20.

This post stuck out the most while reading the last few, thanks Terry.

The reason I quoted this post is not just about freedoms lost during the last 20-30-40 years, what about those lost since our anscestors of this nations military{folks in general} fought for freedom? Don't we owe them something? They lost their lives so we wouldn't be like china russia etc... but we fight to have the government step in, why? Is it for safety, fear, responsibility, baby sitting others, we love taxes, career politicians wouldn't be able to find another job???

I'm sorry junior is so stupid he/she wants to shove things up his/her nose, charles manson owned a farm should all farmers show proof that they're not murders? Should every single car on the roadways be stopped after the hrs of 12:01am heck they're probably drunk anyway, after all, I'm sure they'd find atleast one or 2 drunks.
I don't have the answers to protect every single person on the planet, but I do know it should not be about harassing the innocent. A lot of you keep writting, catching crackhead willy in the act might save a life. 1st we'd have to follow through with what happens after he's caught. I know of many cases where an abuser was caught in the afternoon and back on the street before dark. Maybe if we want to see the crap go down the pipe we should fix the flusher.

I gotta say I'm with 20/20 on this one - not so much about the fact that my having to show ID for glue specifically takes away my right or freedom - but the fact that this is a "state" law essentially making the store responsible (read liable) if a kid huffs glue and hurts himself and/or someone else

This is not the only type of law - there are laws to hold a bar/bartender accountable if a drunk driver kills someone, or the gun manufacturer if someone shoots someone else - it is ludicrous IMHO.

Maybe you feel like that is fine for a corporation to bear that responsibility - but if you're the bar owner, the bartender or maybe you own a mom and pop HW store - now you are definitely in a position to lose personal rights and freedom when you're in jail (or sued till your broke) because some kid huffed glue you sold

And if the glue law is acceptable for HD, why not hold YOU accountable when the kid goes into your garage or work truck and grabs a tube.

These type of laws exist to help spread the responsibility and blame everywhere but were it actually rests - on the individual (or the parents) - and if you happen to be the "innocent" party that gets to take the blame for someone else's stupidity, I would say your rights and freedoms are indeed affected.

I don't think gun manufacturers are or ever were liable under any law for the misuse of their products e.g. during the commission of a crime.

As you imply, minors aren't responsible adults. I think that's a neurological fact. That's why they're restricted from selling or purchasing alcohol or operating a motor vehicle.

Whether you purchase or facilitate the purchase of a controlled substance to a minor, you should be prosecuted. To characterize someone who commits such an offense as an "innocent party" is an extreme view of the scope of individual liberty.

There's allot more going on today with regard to the usurping of individual liberty e.g. the undue influence of special interest money in our politics, than what kind of controlled substances we allow minors access to.

I think some of you guys would make more sense if you switched to an antenna.

Well, I believe we have now solved most of the worlds problems.

Home depot is bad. A clerk doing what she has been instucted to do and probably making $2.35 an hr. (if part time and probably is) to do it is to blame. You still have the freedom to go to a small lumber yard if you can pay their prices.

No good kids. Working at McDonalds, getting orders wrong. Do you realize the poor kid will have to work 2 hrs to afford a gallon of gas or liquid nail so she/he can huff it. Give the kid a break, at least she/he is working. We still have the freedom of going to Burger King or the mom and pop cafe if McDonalds hasn't run them out of business.

We can whine and ***** about kids or adults who don't have the same lifestyle as we have or pretend to have, but we need to realize they have the right to live as they choose provided they live within the laws.

Our problem is mainly it is hard to fit in this society anymore. When I was young I worked exclusively on farms and was thankful for the jobs. I was actually needed. Now there are no farm jobs for youngsters due to liability and laws. If the "hard fit" isn't true why are there so many of us playing with our "toy tractors" and playing farmer. I'll bet most have a "city" job to enable us to get out and do what we really want to do on week-ends.

I want to thank PO'd Veteran and all veterans for their service. I also would like to point out that we all can thank them for preserving our right to have these rants. Some places your opinions are not tolerated.

I don't have the answers to protect every single person on the planet, but I do know it should not be about harassing the innocent. .

You think getting carded for age verification is harassment? What about being asked for your drivers license if you get pulled over for a burned out tail light? You are driving a car. It should be obvious that you have a driver's license shouldn't it? Should a cop ask to see your license? Should cops sit by the side of the road with a radar gun? Even people going the speed limit get nervous when they see that. That seems like harassment of innocent folks by law enforcement. How about using a credit card? If the clerk asks to see ID is that harassment?

I think there are much larger issues to be concerned about than being asked to show ID for age verification for controlled substances.
