I've been thinking about getting a snake gun to carry around. I have a .44 Ruger with a 10 inch barrel that I normally have with me that's great on hogs, and good on snakes if I hit what I'm aiming at. Problem with snake shooting while on the tractor is how quickly it happens, and how slow I am in getting the pistol on target.

Something that fires a .410 seems like it might increase my odds.

Eddie

Eddie- I have a .410 snake charmer that I carry for just that same reason, you never know what you'll see....

the pic is how I carry" on the tractor ..fits a variety of long guns and doubles as a gear hook ... made from ss 1/2"x 1" bar stock . If the weather turns foul or I care to conceal it I slide it in a "old" folding chair bag..color green of coarse

Here in Michigan we have Concealed Carry Permit and I have had one for about 10 years now

but

I can never decide which one to carry.

keeping an up to date concealed weapons permit...IMO is the best way to keep the gov. informed that you have (concealable) firearms...should they ever try to control hand guns they know exactly were to look first...!

The main reason I gave up my dealers lic. a long time ago...

remember.. many states allow private sales of guns between it's citizens.. and a concealed weapon permit covers knives too. so.. it's possible a ccw holder may have sold his guns and only carry a knife... ;)

other things to think about.. any time you buy a gun from a dealer there is a permanent 4473 on record... and anyone with NFA guns.. well.. that's a paperwork trail and baggage for life!

Soundguy, I could be wrong but I think all handgun sales have to go through an FFL (thus the 4473 would be required).
Long guns can be sold face to face (no paperwork) as long as they aren't NFA rifles.

incorrect

Here in Michigan and in many many states you can do "private" sales face to face. (If both parties are in the same state)

Check your state laws which you can find here:

ATF Online - Publications - State Laws and Published Ordinances - Firearms, 2008 (29th Edition)

Some states , like Michigan require that you register any handgun once you purchase it, but you do not need to buy your handguns (or transfer from person to person) through an FFL (Federal Firearms Licensee) or dealer

4 blocks away from my house is Hurley Wisconsin. If you live in Wisconsin, you do not need to register any gun and you can legally buy off anyone on the street or in the classifieds.

If you want to buy a handgun in another state, you MUST transfer it from a dealer in that state to a dealer in your state in order to be legal. A lot of people do not.

I just recently gave up my FFL license and closed my shop and had to know these rules inside and out

like yooper said. it varies by state. the more northeast you go, and the more west you go.. the stricter the laws get.

short and long guns that are not NFA can be sold between private parties in florida, as long as no one is breaking hte law.. like no felons.. etc..

lots of states are like that... thus only a 4473 thru a dealer sale..
